Are Registered ECC Memory compatible with my dual Powermac 450?

Are Registered ECC Memory compatible with my dual Powermac 450, and if so can I max it out with them 1.5gb, right?

I've said it before, and I will say it again, Apple systems do not support ECC memory. If you do install it, chances are it will not work, or it will not be stable. Get some regular PC100 memory, such as provided by www.mohawkmem.com.

Damn, are you sure, because my friend is liquidating, and he said if I open it he won't take it back for a return. the identifiers from the memory are:

On the label: 512MB Reg. ECC PC133R-333-542-Z

On the chip: Samsung 118 K4S560432A-TC75 VP8287AA Korea

Someone please say it will work....Please... I always thought ECC is better ram.

We won't know until the servers are released. I would hope that they go with PC2100/2700 or faster memory (DDR). I don't believe that the DDR memory is ECC, but I haven't bothered to check on that.

DON'T DO IT! MAC'S DO NOT USE ECC MEMORY.

If he is not willing to take it back, then REALLY DON'T BUY ANY!. Notice the 333 numbers... that is slow memory. I always aim for 222 memory (which is faster), or 322 if I must. I wouldn't use 333 memory if you gave it to me.

From Apple's knowledge base look for article 58426, which has

The Power Mac G4 logic board provides four PC-100 DIMM slots.

Compatible DRAM DIMMs must meet all the following specifications:

* PC-100 Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM)
* 3.3 volt
* 64-bit wide, 168-pin module
* Maximum of 16 memory devices on the DIMM
* Unbuffered; do not use registered or buffered Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM)
* Maximum height of 2.0 inches.

Make sure it is going to work with the firmware version you have. If it is real cheap, avoid it. Make sure that you can return it if it doesn't work right. If they put a time limit on the return, or have a 'restocking fee' tell them to get bent. Mohawkmem has a LIFETIME return policy. If it EVER goes bad, or fails to work, call them and they send out a replacement chip, along with a post paid return box for the bad one. There are other vendors that offer the same return policy, go with one of them.

I would never buy something as critical as memory from inCompitentUSA.

ok, so Mohawkmem it is then, but they are really expensive, but ur right ram is to critical to get generic.

Compared to where??? I have found them to be within a few dollars of most reliable memory vendors. You also have to consider the customer support offered.
