Does anyone know the words or phrase for "sack him" in French?

I'm assuming you're using the term to mean firing someone from a job.

That would be "degommez-le", but it is a bit harsh, more like "take him down".

I'd say "virez-le" (throw him out)

drop the 'z' if you are on a 'first name basis' with the person you say it to...

PS. If you're on a Mac, option+e then the letter gives you the accent aigu.

thanks for the tip ! I have enabled the optional 'Swiss French' keyboard settings on my mac...at home. But I am at work on a PC. And yes, I am lazy :p

That's "mangez-moi!".

It works best if you conjugate your verbs :p
(I know, "manger" and "mangez" sound the same...)

As for how to say sack him, there's also:
"Renvoyez-le"
"Mettez-le à la porte" (take him to the door)
These are both less harsh than "Virez-le".

Of course if you're really pissed of with the person you can say "Foutez-le dehors!". Hard to translate, but something on the lines of "throw the bastard out!".

Trying to type French (or any other language that uses accentuated letters) just goes to show the greater ease of use of a Mac over a pc: opt-e for "é" on a Mac, alt+130 on a pc... Or maybe I haven't used a pc for lonng enough and they have found something better than ASCII codes :confused:

Better yet, just memorize the character entities for HTML. :D

é = é
è = è
ç = ç
ô = ô

Universally applicable and easier to remember than arbitrary keystrokes.

Ça va absolument marcher pour les forums, et probablement pour les emails.

Il faut utiliser des codes spécifiques (option+e, ou alt+130) dans les applications qui ne reconnaissent pas le HTML.
