help! time machine is perpetually "preparing..."

Okay so time machine went crazy today and it seems to be broken. Whenever it tries to update, it gets stuck in "preparing..." forever until I click stop backup. I tested the HD, it's fine. I can read/write perfectly fine, its just time machine that seems to be broken.

Any solutions?
