If you specifically don't want to pwn your iPhone then use ZiPhone or iLiberty.. There's no real reason to not to use PwnageTool though, and it does open up more exciting possibilities (as soon as IPSWTool is ready)

I'm in the same boat. My iPhone has 1.1.4 firmware, and today I used iLiberty to jailbreak it. When I did this I installed Cydia, which has some good apps, but I really want Installer. How can I get it on my phone. I went to jailbreakme.com, but it doesn't work.

I am pretty sure you can still use pwnage tool, even if all you want to do is JB. That's the first step anyway.

Maybe I am just a big wuss, but I don't want to do anything to my iphone that is not reversible, and as understand it iLiberty is. If I use PwnageTool can I still reset my iphone to factory settings if I want to someday?

You can reset it at any time. Just restore in itunes. Simple as clicking the restore button :)

I would just use ziphone. It'll put installer on there and it's really easy.
edit: after trying both programs I prefer iLiberty+, check out my post farther down the thread.

that site is good only up to the 1.1.2 fw version and will not work on a 1.1.3/1.1.4fw enabled iphone

Does ZiPhone work the same as jailbreakme.com ? All I want is the NES emulator and to be able to change my icons.

jailbreakme.com ONLY works on 1.1.1 phones it won't work on earlier or later firmware.
Use iLiberty+ to jailbreak and add installer if that is all you want as for now it is the best method to ONLY jailbreak.

I agree about ziphone, you have no fears with ziphone if all you are doing is jailbreaking the phone. It is definitely the easiest method on the market with a 1 click solution.
just install ziphone and hit jailbreak only and in about 2 minutes you will be good to go with installer already installed.
I am using iliberty+ right now and it does work too, but it is more complex that a 1 click ziphone unlock.

Since I already installed iLiberty on my iPhone is it ok to install Ziphone as well? I just want the installer so I can play NES games.

add the installer in the repo's for iliberty... i didnt want cydia at all so I restored, however you can go into the advanced tab and download installer. once you add it into your local iliberty folder you will be able to select it and install it onto your phone using iliberty

Wow! I have no idea what you just said. In Cydia I clicked on the install button, then I looked for the repos folder but its gone. maybe I installed everything in that folder already? Where is the advanced tab located at in cydia? I guess if I can find that I can download installer?

You can't.
You *may*, however, be able to jailbreak it.

So, to jailbreak only, the easiest and best method is to use ZiPhone, not PwnageTool?
ZiPhone doesn't do anything weird to the bootloader? or is that only when unlocking?
Why are all of the jailbreak guides so hard to follow?

if you just want a simple jailbreak app, I used iLiberty+ and it worked great, very simple, and all automated, just click a button!

Do I have to restore to 1.1.4 before using iLiberty+ if I am already on 1.1.4 and have not jailbroken before? I did already force a fresh backup.
Thanks for the help!

The damage that some people are claiming that ZiPhone did is ONLY when the phone was unlocked. JBing is completely harmless and reversible regardless of which program you use.

iliberty is very easy for jailbreaking but IMHO ziphone is a little easier. There is a big button that says "jailbreak". You simply plug in the phone, open ziphone and hit that button. 2-3 minutes later after the phone reboots and runs its scripts you are done.
