I would like to use my iPhone as my actual phone since I already have one. Right now I am using a different phone on Alltel. What is the cheapest plan and company to go on with data plans for a family plan with an extra line? My iPhone is already unlocked, so I could go on T-mobile or AT&T. What's the cheapest plan that has data, and 2 lines? What would it cost?

Their EDGE speed is the same as AT&T. They use pretty much the same towers!

Cheapest data plan on t-mo - $5.99, and that is Unlimited EDGE with the only caveat being that it goes through a proxy, $19.99 for all of T-mobile hotspots and their real EDGE

And the lines really are up to you, do you want Myfaves? Unlimited weekends/nights?

The cheapest plan has free weekends and 300 whenever minutes at $29.99
For $39.99 you can get 1000 minutes and unlimited nights added,
OR you can get MyFaves and 300 anytime minutes and unlimited nights added. MyFaves lets you call any 5 numbers you want unlimited for free anytime you want.

Don't know about 2nd lines, but I think they are $10 extra per month per line. But don't quote me on that.

So the $39.99 a month plan you can add an extra line on for $10 or whatever it is?

On t-mobile:
600 anytime/unlim naw $40
unlim MSG: $15
unlim Internet: $6
total: $61+taxes
on at&t:
450 anytime/unlim naw $40
unlim MSG: $20
unlim Internet: $20
total: $80

T-mobile and AT&T in 90% of places use the exact same towers. AT&T has better coverage but when t-mobile doesn't come in it uses AT&T for roaming which is free.

I think so, but call a rep to check up on it.

I hear the same from AT&T users. Speed tests shown them comparable.

Interesting.
I dont know if its a hack/unlocked problem cause some say the cheap plan on Tmobiles edge is painfully slow where the other more expensive option works alot better.

The cheap $5.99 plan works through a proxy. So it would be a little slower. All the ports redirect over port 80 I believe. The hacks change the ports that the apps use. But you're still using the same EDGE network, it's just that it gets filtered at T-mobile's in slowing some ping.

Technically the $5.99 plan is for WAP phones and is generally optimized for those uses.
I do wonder if some restructuring of t-mobile's internet will come once they get 3G? Because $5.99 and $19.99 is a big jump. I would feel better to get maybe a $9.99 option in there somewhere. Maybe cutting out hotspots or something.

At the bottom of my Plans and Services there's
Add a line for only $9.99/month, and get a free phone.
