What speed will the new iMacs be if there is no Montevina?

If the new iMacs still use the Santa Rosa chipsets with Penryn processors this coming Tuesday, what speed will the top-of-the-range Core 2 Extremes be? 2.8Ghz or 3.06Ghz?

I'd be shocked if we saw 3.06Ghz, because the Mac Pro is still at 2.8Ghz, and Apple likes to keep things neat(I know you can up the Mac Pro past 3.06)

Maybe the Mac Pro will see a small boost!

Cheers. I was hoping for a processor greater than 3Ghz, but I am definitely getting a new iMac on Tuesday if:

1. New iMacs are in fact released on Tuesday.

2. They support a better graphics card in the top-of-the-range model.

The baseline model will be a 2.4 core 2 duo, 2gb RAM, not sure on the graphics card. The top model will be roughly the same with a bigger hard drive, and better graphics card, and hopefully cheaper.

Do you really think Apple will give a Hard Drive larger than 500GB as standard on the top model of the 24" iMac? I hope your right, but I think Apple will be as stingy as always!

I wouldn't get you hopes to high for a good graphics card, when the macbook pro's got upgraded to penryn all they did was increase the vram. Its not going to be the gaming card you gamers are wanting, it never is. :rolleyes:

Now that certainly wouldn't stop them. The iMac was at 2,8 ghz along a 2,6 ghz standard Mac Pro for 4 months. Apart from that, a 8x (or 4x) 2,8 ghz machine will still be faster for the tasks that matter than a 2x3 ghz one.

Happily, most of the speculation here was off. Not only do we have a 3.06ghz processor (with a Montevina speed FSB...hmm), we have a brand-spanking new, halfway-decent GPU, courtesy of NVidia. Thank Goodness.
