As my 8th grade graduation nears, I can either get a 24" 2.4 ghz iMac or a baseline MBP. Which do u recommend?

PS. I have never owned a mac and I plan to use it for my music games pigs and video. But no major editing.

Get an iMac that'll last you til at least college. Then, I'd recommend getting an MBP for taking to lectures. Portability wins in college.

go with the mbp. yeah its way more than you need, but the portability is always great.

personally the baseline mbp will last just as long, and right up to college.

I would suggest to go for macbook pro, You can use it wherever you want. 24" Imac will defiantly give you power boost but you will stick with it for home use only.

Still it depends on personal choice, if I had a choice like you I would go for Macbook Pro.

macbook pro will easily last through at least part of college, maybe the whole thing if all you need it for is word processing, excel, some light programming etc.

I would much rather have a MBP if having to choose between the two. I love having the option to do whatever I want where I want and not having to wait until I'm home.

MacBook Pro. The portability is much more important than the extra juice and REALLY big screen. You can always buy a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. and create a desktop situation. That's what I've done.

OP is going to high school. He/she shouldn't have time to create a desktop environment with MBP. Too much effort to disconnect and reconnect everything. Of course portability is nice, but I think lack thereof is a good deterrence again wasting time.

Based on hardware specs you get much more value for your money when you go for the iMac. If you need to carry around your mac take the MBP if you don't take the iMac. Working with a big screen is much easier than on a smaller one. Just my 2 cent.

Do you need portability or not?

Seeing that you've just finished your 8th grade, you do not. Get the iMac.

I'd go with the iMac. Congrats (in advance) on completing grade 8. Good luck in High School. :)

I'd say get the iMac. Portability at this stage should not be very important.

They just updated the iMac, so that means you could get a 2.8GHz 24" iMac now.
