Airport Express USB Power for iPod/iPhone

After reading stories about the old firewire iPod power supplies doing bad things to the iPhone, I want to replace the power adapter thats currently connected to my Hifi's Apple iPod dock, so that I can dock my iPhone there. However, rather than spend money on a new USB adapter, I was thinking I could just plug an iPod USB cable into the Airport Express USB port, as I have an AE next to my Hifi (for Airtunes).

Has anyone tried this? If not, can anyone see any issues with this?

To clarify, I just want to use the USB port for power.

This is exactly what i do with my Airport EXTREME not EXPRESS.. should be same tho as USB ports serve same function on the both of em.

Ditto. Works fine for me too, although the iPod displays the "Don't disconnect" screen, versus the more accurate "Charging" screen.
