"Pseudo" time capsule possible?

I have a wireless router already and it seems a waste to buy another (because one comes in time capsule) but can I somehow do the following?

With my wireless router, can I buy a stand alone hard drive and somehow connect it to the router to do wireless backups through time machine?

I have been away from the forums for a while so forgive me if this has been asked already. 🙂
 
Possibly, but unless your current router has a USB input, you'll be stuck having to find an external hard drive with an ethernet port. That can get pricey.
