I have not tried any personally. However I imagine that they work just like the various free ipod/xbox360/designer purse/etc sites that were so popular for a few months. One completes a certain number of offers (for which the site collects a commission) and refers a certain number of others to the site inorder to earn the offered item.
Obviously the requirements will be comparatively higher ($1800 MBa vs $400 iPod) but the idea is the same.
Issues will be:
Finding a trustworthy site. (hard until there is more feedback)
The amount of time and hassle you are willing to endure when it comes to signing up for and subsequently canceling the various offers.
Personally, I found the time required to do the various 'free ipod/et al' offers to be too much. I consider my time more valuable then that. (not to say I am rich by any means, but my free time is precious to me)

TBH I'd rather lay out the £1000 instead of having telemarketing calls for the rest of my life.

All joking aside...I got a bunch of free stuff from those kind of sites a couple years ago...I got a free ipod, 4 or 5 plasma tvs, a few $2000 checks, a $1000 check, and a couple $500 checks....I've since found that the sites require to many expensive offers to make them worth while, although i haven't looked at them for like a year.
