just how much does a disk image actually compress the files? For example I have to home movies totaling 6.1 gb. Is it possible to do a dmg and fit them both on a DVD-R? I'm guessing no but I thought I'd ask. By the way I don't want to be able to watch them. just to store them and get that 6 gigs back!

If it's RAW DV fottage, try compressing it using MPEG-2(DVD) that will chop it down quite a bit.

I've edited them in iMove, would that still work? Also is that using the disk copy utilty or some other program. Thanks for the reply.

MEPG-2 is what all DVD's are on, If you have iDVD, (I'm guessing you do since you have a DVD burner) Just encode and burn. It's tht simple. If it's still not small enough try encoding in Div-X/MPEG4 These suffer a loss of quality but it's still much much better than VCD/SVCD.
