Brightness problem after installing the latest Bootcamp update

Hello. After I installed the latest version of Bootcamp, my SR MBP 17" often turns to maximum brightness automatically. If I press either the increasing or decreasing brightness button, it dims to the correct brightness. Then, it goes back to mximum brightness automatically again. Anybody knows how to fix this problem? I am using Windows XP SP2. I have updated the Nvidia driver to 17482 already but the problem remains. Thanks.

I have a somewhat related question. Why do you need to update Boot Camp if you've already installed Windows under the previous version. After all you don't need BC to install and run Windows - I installed Vista without it and everything runs okay.
Didn't mean to hijack your thread - just curious.
