Looking for software (free & not free) to thoroughly test WD Scorpio 320G HD?

I'm upgrading MBP HD to WD 320 G and want to thoroughly test before installing into MBP - I have an external HD case, but need to find a program that will run the tests.

What is a good program (free would be preferred) to test a new Hard Drive?
