I have an 8GB USB drive and need it in a format that windows can write to. So I format it to FAT32. Checking in terminal the drive is split up.

/dev/disk2
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: FDisk_partition_scheme *7.5 Gi disk2
1: DOS_FAT_32 NO NAME 199.2 Mi disk2s1
2: DOS_FAT_32 UNTITLED 7.3 Gi disk2s2

OS X can see and write to the 7.3GB partition but windows can only see the 200MB partition, this is really annoying and formatting it in windows does nothing beneficial.

After several attempts and a long time using many different applications it is now sorted.

I used HDD Low Level Format Tool (http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2006.04.12-HDD-Low-Level-Format-Tool/) which totally nuked the drive. The drive is now faster as well.

Thanks for the link. Just came across this post, and have a few flash drives that had similar issues.

Sadly mine never worked with this app, it can't do anything with it. My 1GB Corsair stick somehow managed to turn into a 2TB Sky Media device that I cannot access. Can't format it, delete a partition or create one, can't do nothing with it under disk management. It's like a read only device as if it was a optical drive, but a removable drive.

I've tried just about every app out there, nothing works with it.
