my system tells me i have 4 GB of ram but menu-meters says i have 3985 MB total, if my GB to MB math is right, 4096 MB should be 4 GB and i actually have 3.89 GB of ram

The video chipset takes some of the system RAM; this is why you're just a little short of 4096MB.

Yeah, I have an iMac (first mac) 3.06 with the 8800 GS (GTS?) with its own 512 MB VRAM. Where does the extra 107 MB of RAM go?

On my MacBook, MenuMeters tells me 4086MB total, the 'missing' 10MB allocated to the GMAX3100 (which can use up to 144MB max).
