Wht do you guys consider the best application out of the box for OS X?

For me its Front Row i just love being able to lie in bed and just watch movies with the help of me remote 😀

My vote is for Quick Look. Its made my like so much more easier.

+1
Whenever I'm at work using my Windows box I try pressing space a few times before realizing that I really have to start up Word to read a 3-line document.

What is quick look?

And what does time machine actually do?

I thought it was just like System Restore on Windows? Roll it back a few days?

Err, quick look lets you look at things quickly 🙂.

Time Machine is more like a versioning tool. It allows you to roll back to a different version of any file you have had on your machine for as long as you have had Time Machine installed.

Mail. It has the best spam recognition I've found yet inside an email program. Since my switch to the Mac this is the first time in a long time I haven't had to use a supplementary program (like Mailwasher or Spamex(?)) to deal with incoming spam.

Dashboard! Use it all the time!

Or does Expose count as an application? That I use at least every minute i'm on a Mac!

Are you asking about OS X features, or applications?

The best Application I've found is Keynote.

The best OS X feature is "sort by kind", added in 10.5 to the Finder's Column View 🙂

Time Machine is a close second. My wife and I have used it several times to recover from lost photos and corrupted application preferences.

Definitely throwing my hat in the spaces pile. As an osx feature I use it all the time...it helped me get a lot more organized but it just means I don't use expose as much.

Application-wise iPhoto has really helped me organize my photos so that is a bonus.

bootcamp😀
I attend pdxlan (500 person LAN) two or three times a year and there is nothing like fragging people on my mac 🙂

Preview, Quicklook, Stacks and Expose for features:

Keynote, Numbers and Time Machine for applications.

I'm confused about one thing, the OP's thread title gives me the impression that he's familiar with the Macintosh however he keeps saying he knows nothing about the apps people are posting.😕

Has the OP bought a Mac yet?
