Fortune claim that Steve will make his keynote on the first day of the WWDC and will announce the iPhone at this time:
Although no official announcement has been made, Apple public relations confirmed to Fortune that Steve Jobs will deliver a keynote address on June 9, the first day of the 2008 World Wide Developers conference.
It is widely expected that Jobs will use that speech to unveil the next generation of iPhones, including a so-called 3G model.
Not really new information, but just confirmation that Apple PR have confirmed Jobs will talk to us on the first day, so iPhone announcement June 9th then?

Fortune's Apple 2.0 blog received (http://apple20.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/05/12/3g-iphone-steve-jobs-to-deliver-keynote-june-9/) confirmation from Apple's public relations that Steve Jobs would be delivering the keynote speech at Apple's Wordwide Developer's Conference on Monday, June 9th.Although no official announcement has been made, Apple public relations confirmed to Fortune that Steve Jobs will deliver a keynote address on June 9, the first day of the 2008 World Wide Developers conference.Of course, it's no surprise that Steve Jobs will be delivering the keynote speech at WWDC, but it had not been formally announced or scheduled (http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/events/). Apple, of course, is widely expected to deliver the next version of the iPhone at WWDC.

You are chatting with Renee D, an Apple Expert
Hi, my name is Renee D. Welcome to Apple!
Good morning.
I think there is a problem with the website. It wont let me buy an iPhone
it says currently unavailable
Am i on the wrong screen?
At this time, I do not have any specific information. You can view the most up-to-date availability of the [product] online http://apple.com/store.
ok. Can I buy them somewhere else?
You can try the Apple Store in your area or the nearest AT&T store.
Im not sure I understanf, is it currently unavailable from my computer or could I use another computer to buy one
apologize for the inconvenience, but the iPhone is currently unavailable for purchase from the Apple Online Store.
Thanks Renee

IMHO iPhone 3G will not be the big ticket announcement, the big ticket will be the new device, also a small mention about 10.6, probably the cat name and more details at Jan conference.
Or they could announce that they purchased Dell and are giving the money back to the shareholders. Now that would be a hoot!!!!!!!!!!

WWDCs start on Monday, but that brings up a point - everyone is forgetting that this is a developer conference. It's going to be geared toward them, not consumers in general. I was there two years ago, and the new things were the MacPro and a Leopard sneak peak.

The iPhone has become a developement platform so any changes and upgrades affect the developers. Sure it wouldn't be appropriate to intro a new non-touch iPod or Apple TV at WWDC because that is a closed platform (for now).
Plus, all eyes are on any keynote that Steve gives.

#&%@ the iPhone. I wish they'd show some iPod Touch love. I'd love a remodeling so the screen consumes the entire front (like the many similar fake mock-ups prior to release), AM/FM tuner, and 64GB. They do that and I'm dusting off the credit card.
I'm just tired of no news on the iPod, as if it's an abandoned product. Even searching for news on it gives you nothing but a pile of iPhone stories to dig through.

Leopard hasn't even been out for a year yet. I wouldn't imagine talk of 10.6 until the 2009 WWDC. New releases of System 10 seem to be happening every 18-21 months now.
