Don't have a partner, but I know my dad has hidden his purchases from mum. But it's fruitless - she gets the credit card bill.

HA!

For those who *are* single, maybe someone should develop a Mac2Mac dating site!

At my work, we have this guy who pays for his computers with two checks so that his wide can not see how much he spent.

he does it all the time. The manager is friends with him, so he has us help shadow mask his spending.

This is a dangerous one. ;)

When I got my first TiBook, I kinda fudged the price to my then-girlfriend. She never understood my need to upgrade from a 4400.

I sneak in the small purchases: new hard drive, more ram, etc.
but the big purchases I don't try to hide or fudge the numbers. I'd never get away with it.

Now in negotiations for a Cannon Digital Rebel and a bigger compact flash card.

Haven't used it for computer purchases, but I just take extra money out of the ATM for a couple of months and then pay in cash.

No big bill, no hassle, no knowledge.

I am doubtless the most grievous offender in this arena, as Arn who is ususally privy to my deceptions, can attest to.

Hands down.

We macheads need to get out more to bars, restuarants, strip clubs, movies, the mall , church , ect. Maybe some of us should go on The Bachelor, Mr. Personality, Elimidate, 3rd Wheel , Blind Date and Love Connection . :p

I'm a no, never. My wife ends up making the vast majority of our purchases. So usually she make the final decsion and signs the slip.

haha i can relate... my partner does all of the finances, but i keep just enough separate to keep him guessing. how much i spend on drinking, drugs, computer equipment, and drinking is none of his business ;)

tho he usually finds out in the end, i wait for a couple of weeks so he can't get so mad :)

Does a mom count? I always tell her i got a REALLY good deal. Like my $2700 Powerbook for $2000 and my PowerMac G4 for $1500. :)

I wondered that too -
as for me and my wife, I make the decision to buy whatever it is, and she makes the actual purchase. She keeps track of the $$ in our house anyway, which keeps me from running out and buying a new machine all the time. Our system works for us - and for the big stuff, we have an apple educator's loan which keeps us pretty honest in the "large purchase" arena.

so I'm a no...

I clicked on the don't have a partner/spouse right now because my current girlfriend is just that, a girlfriend. But when I was living with an ex, I did tell her what was going on with my purchases. But I'm a finance optimizer so I rarely go overboard with stuff like that. Honest!:D

I have an unfair advantage - I handle the finances in my house, so I can quietly make purchases without tipping my hand.

I do try to be good, though, and not spend more than $100 on the sly!

I guess i'm really lucky. Being with my wife for more than 6 years. I turned her into a "Mac nut" too. I'm looking to get a powerbook in the near future. And on a recent trip to Comp USA I told her I def. don't want a 12" but would like to have the 15". After looking at all of them she said "let's get the get matching 17's"

Even though she writes the checks I have to be the penny pincher and keep us from going to far in debt. But seriosly now I'll prob. get the 17.

SLOWX that has got the be the funniest thing i've seen in a while.

Is it really necessary for partners to combine their finances and watch each others' spending? As long as you're both pitching in for what you need to, does money have to be part of a relationship?

(Just to come clean, I have used hypnosis to conceal computer spending from myself.)

I think in some cases it makes sense to combine finances - at least to have a joint account besides your separate accounts. It's just easier that way to pay rent, bills, etc. from one shared account, since the 2 of you should be splitting the costs equally. Kind of easier for groceries too, if, again, you're splitting things equally. But as far as computers go, well if it's a computer for the both of you, splitting the costs equally from a joint account makes sense. If it's your little toy that your partner could care less about, then use your own money to buy your own things, and what should it matter? Everything within reason of course... ;)

I'm the one who manages the finances at my home... when I wanted my first iMac I told my wife for weeks that I needed a new computer, even thou I didn't, she agreed after 3 weeks.... a month after came the night of the panther, we got caught up in the moment and since we just sold her old ibook, we got her a new 15" PB..... gosh I need 3 weeks, and she did it in just a couple of minutes.....

Sounds good to me. It's hard enough to find a chick who is a Mac user, let alone one that would tolerate someone who posts on forums all the time, owns six Macs, stands in line at Panther's release, has Apple logo tattoos...

Apple tatoos?? Wow, now that is what I call a mac fanatic!

Wife pays the bills so hard to hide. Then again, most of my computer purchases are for work. I normally purchase about 5 macs a year for work (slow continual upgrade process of about 25 machines). Thus, I can get my "fix" for new macs at work. This helps but has lead to a wireless network at home after setting one up at work and buying the 17" imac after it came out.

Now I just need to find the money at work to buy me a 17" laptop to replace my 4 year old PC. That would be heaven! :D

for someone to spoof a MacAddict type Mac2Mac reality dating show...

"I really liked him, till i found out he was still running OS 9.2. I mean, that's so the past. Let go. Move on!"

Also: My fiancee accompanied me to the Panther release party, she's not a Mac user.....yet!

Better to have a partner who tolerates your posting on a mac forum. What's the worst that could happen? Would they rather us macheads all be out with Blakespot at the strip clubs?

No no, I don't have any Apple tattoos. But I think I have seen pics of some before. But the rest applies.

[begin spoof]
I also like long walks on the beach, seafood, I play acoustic guitar, and volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. But I enjoy fast music at nightclubs and stand u comedy.

so ladies if you're looking for a sophistcated, but laidback man...
