Yeah, but we still only have our 15 inchers. Guess we'll have to wait just a bit more.

That's your optical drive, not your harddisk silly

It replaces both your optical drive and internal drive.

SuperDrive is a name. It cannot "replace" your stuff. That's like saying a Ferrari replaces a supercar. But it in itself is a supercar. And the harddisk is separate. Even apple's spec pages on their site acknowledge that

What exactly is the practicality of ditching an optical drive for some odometer-crazy feeling of having 1TB of storage? If you need that much, buy an external drive (either the small or large variety) and put a 300-500GB drive inside.

So this thing runs some sort of RAID? I'm sure you'd see a noticeable drop in battery life with the extra drive spinning.

I dont see why someone would want that much internal hdd in a laptop. External hdd is the best option imo.

You have to remove your SuperDrive to install this drive. Read the article. You don't have to take the word lose literally. If you install this drive, you no longer have an internal SuperDrive. I'm sure many would find this an inconvienence.

And again to explain better. This kit is essentially two 500 gig drives. One rests where your normal hard drives sits, and the other one rests in place of your SuperDrive. The article itself says one 500 gig drive takes place of your optical drive. (read: SuperDrive)

I rather have the superdrive (optical drive to those that argue that its dumb to call it a superdrive when apple names it the superdrive).
