I was just looking at the Apple site and the site has the price for the 1.8 GHz Air as $3,098! Was it always that expensive?!

Yeah after looking at the lower model, I noticed the solid state drive. Wow, I know its new tech, no moving parts, etc., but jeez, extra 1000 to loose space?

oh no $3,098! panic!
Try $4,338 in Australia.
Our $ buy's 95cents US...
So your MBA 1.8 with SSD converts to $3,287
So if a MBA costs $3,287 AUD to buy from the USA, WHY ON EARTH are we paying $4,338 AUD buying locally?
jesus, I can't believe how RIPPED OFF we get here.
Not to mention all other Apple products, like the Apple TV $243 AUD from the USA store... $449 AUD from the Australia store! WTF? $200 MORE !?
answers, please.... no really. Lets have em... *sigh* rant over.

I feel your pain - for months the Canadian dollar has been at parity with the USD, but prices were still hundreds more for the goodies than our neighbors to the south. Not $200 more for the apple TV, but certainly $100+ depending on what you're looking at.... Frustrating since a 4 hour drive can net you one at the lower price in a US store.

I just don't understand... I mean, yes, we have a goods and services tax (GST), it's 10%, that doesn't justify the high prices... perhaps there's duty or import taxes, even with that, not even close.
Shipping from China to Australia surely can't cost more than shipping from China to USA.
It's horrible, there has been post after post about this. I doubt we will ever get a fair go.
At the moment there is a serious resources boom in Australia (WA specifically) with mining, etc... apparently us west Aussies can afford absolutely everything. We're all rich, didn't you know? feh.
The price of fuel and food is just a joke. I wonder how some families can even cope. Fuel $1.70/ltr. Food... $3.40 for a loaf of bread. The price of meat, holy crap!
Anyway, this is going off topic.
Before you bitch and moan about the price you pay for Apple gear in the USA, take into consideration the other countries that pay upto DOUBLE (apple TV) for a device!
Sulking about it isn't going to help me, I'm still going to buy the products, right?
I just wish there was someone at Apple Australia that I question regarding this. hrmmm
