Do you Really need the belkin recorder?

do you really need the belkin voice recorder to record on the ipod?

How does the belkin recorder work? There is no menu option for recording in the new software currently, and the belkin comes with no software.

The recording abilities are already installed in your iPod firmware, but only show up in the menus when you plug in the Belkin recorder (or any other recording hardware to be released in the future). Most likely it's the remote jack that activates the recording abilities. I'm hoping Griffin comes up with something more useful.
