Hello, all! Just wanted to say I finished setting up my brand new system:

Dual 2GHz G5
OS X 10.3.1 Panther
160GB (added second 200GB HDD)
512 RAM (will upgrade soon to 1.5 GB)
Everything else stock config.

Mitsubishi 22" DiamondPro 2070SB monitor (Black)
JBL Creature Speakers (Silver)
Logitech MX500 wired optical mouse
Epson CX3200 All-in-one printer
Zip 100 USB external drive

All I have to say is that the G5 ROCKS! This is my first Mac, jumping from a 1GHz Duron self-built PC. I love OS X. I'm still not used to all the ins and outs of OS X yet, but am finding it very intuitive. It makes Win XP feel really cheap and old. Exposé is awesome.

Opening the box was quite the experience. It almost felt like a ritual; everything was so neatly packaged... The machine is huge! And the monitor is gigantic (couldn't justify paying $600 more for a 20" Cinema Display) and actually matches the G5 look (jet black with hundreds of round perforations on top).

I didn't get a dud! The machine is very quiet, with a very low humming sound. No weird chirping/grating/irritating buzz. Guess I'm lucky.

In addition, I also got my fiancé to switch to a 12" G4 iBook, and my brother to a 15" 1.25GHz PowerBook. I feel proud!

So, I can now officially feel at home at MacRumors. If anyone has any questions about my setup, please post away!

I am so happy right now!:D

Well, because I had about $300 available to upgrade from a 433Mhz Celeron eMachines. I have to say, jumping from that to a 1Ghz Duron was a bigh sigh of relief! But that was still nowhere near adequate for Photoshop or video editing, which is what this beast is for.

It is a workstation, though, because I won't be playing many games on it (not much of a gamer), though I'd love to get my hands on a nice "Medal of Honor" sometime around Xmas (hint hint to my fiancé).;)

i love seeing this kind of post! the feelings you gave are exactly those that I had when I switched a few years ago. I think I have gotten 5 people to also jump ship too, which makes me feel quite proud too :D enjoy your G5 and when you are tired with it, send it my way

If anyone has any questions about my setupD

Zip 100 is an odd addition I would have thought with that kind of out lay you could have at least afforded to get a 250mb one. Any way enjoy your new machine

How woud she fell if here husband to be was more attracted to his new computer than to her. Just a friendly peice of advice buy or bootleg your own games and ask for something a little more fitting from your wife to be.
