View Full Version : MS Office v. X - determining version

When I bought my Powerbook I also bought MS Office. Another thread on this forum reminded me that it's probably a good idea to check for updates - so I went to the MS site.

There are several updates for Office v. X. Unfortunately (in typical MS fashion, from what I remember when doing this same process on Windows in the past) the updates aren't cumulative so I may need to install two or more of them in order.

So... how do I determine my version number? "About Word" (or Excel, or ...) just tells me it's "Service Release 1". I've tried looking at the splash screen when the programs launch, but they disappear too quickly. I did a quick search of the MS help site but didn't find the answer.

Thanks for your help!

Good question! I was wondering the same thing and couldn't find out, however when you do an Office update it creates a Log of the installation (and lists version #) in your documents folder. Not the user documents folder in the Home Folder, but the documents folder in your computer.

I couldn't find the info in the Installation Log (but it was a good thought). However I did discover something that works.

Highlight (but don't launch) Word, Excel, or Powerpoint. Select "Get Info" from Finder's File menu.

Alternatively, right-click and select "Get Info".

Very nice! Thanks! I would have never thought of trying that.
