Would walmart notebooks really compete with Apple? I would be skeptical...

I would identify Walmart computers with emachines...cheap, and you get exactly what you pay for.

Haven't used their recent laptop have you? They have improved on quality greatly.

Would they run "Lindows" like other cheap Wal-Mart PCs? A nightmare, according to Consumer Reports. Linux trying to be more than it can be for the average user, with just about no good way to get more software than it comes with.

A Wal-Mart laptop would be in a wholly different niche from an Apple laptop, with very different target markets. Cheapskates don't go for Macs, because they only look at the initial price tag and don't consider all the software and hardware upgrades an x86 machine needs to be comparable to a typical Mac. And, they rarely tax the ability of even the cheap hardware they do buy, so maybe a Mac would be overkill for them.

Only in the sense that it's another laptop computer is the Wal-Mart a competitor to a Mac, but it's a rather distant competitor.

I looked on the walmart website and didn't find Lindows. Where did you hear about this?

Damn only 150 bucks. I can see millions of moms and dads buying this for their kids first computer. This is greet for the 12-17 crowd. Unless they gamers.
