At first I thought... "finder can do that"

but it does appear to be much faster than finder in calculating sizes.

Ummmm.... is this any different from OmniDiskSweeper (http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnidisksweeper/), besides the fact that ODS has been out for 3 years come this Thursday?

This tool is sorta like using "ls -l" in the Terminal. I love it. WhatSize helped me clean up about 50 gigs of wasted space, last week.

Try "du -hs *"

Disk Usage: Summarize, for Humans, everything.

The distinct advantage of this over Omni DiskSweeper is that this is free. However, this doesn't appear to sort by size, so if you would rather see the data that way, ODS would be much better for you.

Nevermind, I didn't wait long enough. This does appear to work much better than ODS.

Thanks, I really like that one, 've been trying it in different directories, it's just really straight forwardly useful.
