Hopeful of a price drop on new aluminum MacBooks

Do you guys think that with the new aluminum MacBook release, Apple will lower the price a little? It seems like bad business to have their base laptop priced at $1,099. They could price the base aluminum MacBook at $700 or something and it would attract A LOT more people.

I've never paid less than 1,199 plus tax for a Mac. They can only get more expensive with upgrades and new models to the Summer Line! IMHO. :(

You do pay a premium for the Apple logo, but look at a $700 notebook. They're nowhere near as well spec'd.

I highly doubt they would lower the price of a 'low end' aluminum macbook...your best bet would be to look for the price reduction on the current white/black books once the alleged aluminum macbooks finally come out.

I think it would make sense for Apple to offer a cheap alternative and tap into the market that just want a notebook for word applications or surfing.

i would think they would go up look from plastic to aluminum ud think the aluminum would be more ? but macs arent worth as much as they used to be i saw a imac 1.83ghz 1gb ram and 250gb hd for 675 plus came with office 04 and leopard and compaired to a g5 1.8ghz sold for 900 my macbook right now is probably only worth 600 cdn

Heck knows what would make you say that. They're no cheaper.
The most recent PowerBook G4s were $1999, and MacBook Pro kept that pricepoint when it replaced them.

MacBooks have been $1099, $1299, $1499 since their introduction.

So they haven't gotten any cheaper (maybe for Apple to produce, but certainly not for for the end-user), just offered more at each revision.

Agreed. Apple has really been using a lot of inferior products lately. Lots of problems (screen issues, hard drives, etc.).

Still love Mac OS and won't go back to Windows anytime soon though.

If any move down it'll likely only be $100 down to $999 -- without a Superdrive.

But since Apple killed off some of the cheaper education models (like the iMac), not likely to be any education models offered over in the retail channel at smoking deals.
