What to look for with Core Shutdown...

I've been reading about this overheating/core shutdown problem. How would I know if I'm experiencing a core shutdown? What happens?

You will know.

There is a noticeable pause. The easiest way though, is to simply open up Activity Monitor and press CMD-3 to open the CPU history window. A core shutdown is indicated by no dots/bars on one core. Since it generally happens under load, the other processor will show bars while the other core is shut down.

also note that when computer has shutdown a core.... the dots or CPU load shifts from one core to the other.... meaning that one core is under full load... (the bar is full) and the other is under no load (empty bar) and then it will switch....

normal behavior will have both bars with load (dots lit up)on both cores....
