Huge Issue!!! (corrupt directory)

My external hard drive shows the following message to me about a "folder" I created. The finder shows it as a file, but i created it as a folder. also, about 300 very important files are in there. Help!!!

yeah that is bad, i think that directory got corrupt on your HD. I honestly dont know of anyway to recover your files but someon else might.
 
Have you tried terminal? Open the terminal, and type cd /Volumes/"My Book"/"desktop stuff and misc" with the quotes, since there are spaces in the file names, and see if that works. If not then you got problems 🙂 Perhaps repair your permissions, and Disk?
