Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum, but not new to apple. I've had my iMac for about a year now (20 inch, 2.16 ghz, 2 gb ram) and I've never had any problems with it... until recently. I've tried all my mac friends around here and even a few of my extremely intelligent pc friends, and nobody has any idea how to help me. If you want to skip the background info, than skip to the ***'s.
I apologize for the long story, but I figure it'd be better for you to have all the details. I use my iMac for audio recording (pro tools LE 7.3). I know that PTLE is not compatible with 10.5 yet, but my parents bought me the new OS and have been waiting for me to install it so I can help them troubleshoot their problems back home. I convinced my parents to get a mac a few months ago and their iMac had leopard and mine had tiger, so they wanted to be able to get me 10.5 so I could be seeing the same thing as them when they're trying to explain their computer problems with me. I read online that i could delete a certain plug-in and PTLE would still run on the new OS. So I installed it, and everything worked fine, until I got a new midi controller and that software isn't compatible with Leo. So I backed everything up and re-installed Tiger. After I did this, my computer has been a little slower and I have had problems downloading torrents (LEGAL torrents) and other programs off the web as well as accessing my own server.
***Ever since I re-installed 10.4.11 I have not been able to download any kind of torrent files, nor have I been able to DL files from my personal server. My buddy and I have a website where we pass our pro tools sessions back and forth to each other so we can see what the other person has been working on. My DL's time out when using Fetch and Transmit (my ftp programs). I tried going to softpedia.com to DL a virus checker for my computer, but it wouldn't let me. It'd say... "Your download will begin in 3 seconds." And then it'd never start, so I clicked on the Mirror site, and it just opened a blank web page. Now, I know that it's not softpedia.com, because ANY program I try to download does the same thing. And I can access the website from friends computers, so I know it's just me.
My internet works fine, I can browse, check email, youtube, xbox live. I can do anything I want to on the net, I just can't download. I've checked the preferences to make sure the DL's are going to my desktop and I'm just plain frustrated and out of ideas. If ANYBODY can help me, I would be very very appreciative. I don't know if I should just re-install Tiger and make sure I do a clean install and get rid of EVERYTHING on the HD. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help!!
