Okay, let's get the idiocy out of the way.

No new Mac Pros. (No Nehalem)
No new MacBook Pros. (No Montevina)
No new MacBooks. (No Montevina)

Maybe Redesigned/Killed Mac Mini.
Maybe Apple TV software update. (since everything is getting updated)
Maybe .Mac info.

YES. 3G iPhone.
YES. Firmware 2.0

Lamest Keynote in a while...

Side Note: I want a MacTablet. It's not happening.

You forgot about iTunes 8 built around Cocoa. I see this happening as developers already said a new versions of iTunes is needed for 2.0 and with a launch this big I think they would jump to 8 and not a dot release.

If they do iTunes in Cocoa it'll come with a replacement to Quicktime AKA "Core Media", but that'll need some time in beta first.

Can't wait for WWDC this year, its shaping up to be a good one.

As previously posted, this is what I'd like to see:

- The release of v2.0 & coincidentally iTunes 8.0 (both available to download hours after the keynote)

Software enhancements I'd like to see implemented in v2.0:

- Mail/Safari: Saving of a photo or attachment from Mail.app
- iPhone OS: Copy & Paste
- Safari: Tag/keyword searching within Safari.app (Spotlight search integration)
- iPhone OS: Option to move the docks position on-screen
- Homescreen: Option to change icon of webclip after adding clip to homescreen
- iPhone OS: Option to have new mail alerts display in iPod status bar
- iPhone OS: Option to enter CloverFlow view for Tv Shows/Movies
- iPhone OS: Screensaver Option within Settings menu
- Applications: iChat ported to iPhone (Apple)
- Applications: Touch Fighter bundled (Apple - as previewed during the March 6th event)
- Applications: TouchFx bundled (Apple - as previewed during the March 6th event) - possibly 'Photobooth-like' UI.

General announcements I'm hoping for within the WWDC conference:

- UK & Canadian iTunes Movie Rentals launched
- Song prices reduced from 79p to 71p (as promised last year) - Store-wide

Revisions of hardware i'm hoping for:

- 64Gb iPod touch (SSD)
- 3G iPhone (GPS)

I realise WWDC is a developer-focused event, so most of this is just wishful thinking, but ..

Why not? Last time they were delayed by the iPhone and Mac OS X Intel.

Frankly if it isn't sustained they won't get an OS out until Windows 7 is due which given Apple's far superior API would be seriously worrying.

So far every beta release of the iPhone OS 2.0 has required a new release of the SDK and changes, some major, to any App written for the SDK to make them work with it. Beta 5, for example, they completely changed how touch-detection works, removed library support for detecting swipes (so developers had to write their own swipe-detection code), and changed very basic OpenGL stuff that *every* OpenGL app uses.

As for Leopard updates, that's not the same thing - one of the two big features of iPhone OS 2.0 is the App Store for third-party apps, but no apps can be released unless developers have the final SDK in advance. The only way it could work would be if Apple decided to just release the newest beta as final.

I remember a few years ago about the 12-18 month release cycle, but it being as the OS matures the releases will be LESS frequent. I'd like to hear a mention of 10.6 next week but as for it's release, I'd see it being fully demoed in January 2009, then it being released between June 2009 and November 2009. I mean really. We JUST got Leopard.

I actually think there is a small chance for a preview of 10.6.

If anything, I expect 10.6 to include significant touch interactivity... especially if Apple is serious about releasing a slightly-bigger-than-iphone tablet thingy that has recently been rumored about again (or any other machine whose design lends itself to touch interactivity...)

Though MS showed off some touch goods (weak touch goods at that) at D6, I don't think Apple will take this as pressure to show off their touch os any sooner than they plan to. It seems that they only show things when they're good and ready.

But, one has to wonder.. what if they were that much closer to being "good and ready" (this year) than any of us anticipated?

Cheers,

If the 3G model is "available now" then so will the 2.0 firmware. It's possible that the firmware will be available before the 3G model, but it cannot be the other way around.

I suspect that both will be available immediately after Jobs' keynote. We'll know better closer to the time if Apple stores are closing in preparation of the iPhone launch. It's also possible that he'll debut the stuff, and tell us it'll be available on iDay2, sometime in late June as previously indicated.

I plan to upgrade, but not straight away. So, while I'm anxious to find out what's coming, I'm not too worried about the release date. Of course, as soon as I see what the 3G can do, I'm sure I'll want one straight away...

When people expect too much, it always blows
When people don't expect much, it always blows everyone away

I tend to think negative so I always end up happy :D

I'm new here, mainly because I plan on dropping sprint like a turd in the pot. I am planning to switch to AT&T (Chicago) and have read rumors of the new iPhone , which would prompt me to wait till June 9th. I'm assuming the 9th is the announcement date and the launch date will be later. When I walked into my local AT&T store and said I was thinking of switch carriers but will wait till the 9th for the 3G version, the sales rep looked at me like I had just told him I shot his mother. "That's like in 5 days!". I would assume AT&T prepares their sales force for releases such as these?

haha, I love the imagery.

They would prep them, but without a product announcement, at this point it is all speculation. Apple is pretty tight lipped about new products, so there is no way they would let it trickle down to lowly AT&T salespeople.

They will likely give them some heads up before the launch, but after an official announcement.

I sure hope the IPhones are actually available this Monday as I just listed my ITouch on Ebay. I've really enjoyed my ITouch and I bought it knowing that it would eventually be replaced by an IPhone.

Stop capitalizing all the leading i's! It's not Apple's way! And what the heck? "Ebay"? It's "eBay"! Just go to www.ebay.com and check the title of the window!

4 days, 7 hours, 29 minutes until the WWDC 2008 keynote.

Probably 4 days and 10-12 hours until the recording of it is online...

Also please make note that Apple does not sell a product called ITouch

Nor do they make a product called 'Nano', but we call it that anyway.

I think we've just exhausted most of the talk about the iPhone and we're all looking for something to add to the conversation.

I have a quick question that might work here.(Didn't want to start a new thread)

Does the iPhone have an alarm clock? I often use my cell phone to wake me up from naps and was wondering if the iPhone had and alarm clock.

Which I hit like 15 times every morning...:)

So much so that I have 4 alarms set to go off every weekday at 8 minute intervals. Each one is progressively more annoying. Bell Tower, Marimba, Old Phone, Alarm. By the time the last one sounds, there is no way I can sleep anymore.

Thanks for the reply. I figured it would but you never know.

I did think of one more question. In regards to taking pics with the iPhone, when you email a pic you take with the phone, does the pic show up in the body of the email or is there a link to the pic. I wonder because I love taking snapshots of the kids and then send them to friends and family.

Yes.

But you can only do 1 at a time.

At least with the current software...

It displays the time left before the next keynote will begin.

I would if I had a Mac, but I've got a PC, unfortunately. I use a countdown gadget set to 1PM June 9th (EST) so I'm all good. I simply do my updates for the pure sake of anticipation, and for all the people who get a fix out of coming onto this thread, including myself :D

Great thread, OP!

This thread is better. Because it has seconds :)

Plus, this thread was here before they put the countdown up, but then again, MacRumors was here before this thread was here, and we're posting on MacRumors.. Ehh, whatever. I still prefer this thread

Edit: PLUS, our countdowns have colors and Apple logos and are better looking. Jeez, get off my case! Just kidding. I'm hyper, apologies.

I can't wait until tomorrow to see what Steve announces at tomorrow's keynote at WWDC. I really want him to announce the new iphone, with 3G and a better camera.

If he does announce it then when will we be seeing it in the UK for sale?

Why is everyone speculating a June 9th launch? Didn't the AT&T email say employees can't take off June 15th-July? This leads me to believe it'll be a June 16th launch. All though I would really really like a launch tomorrow, got the money ready and gas in the car.

I'd say the 20th, I'd think they'd like to keep it on a Friday.

Launch can mean announcement. Keynote is tomorrow, so in that sense it is nigh on guaranteed.

Could Monday come a little faster.....PLEASE!!!! I have been waiting to get this 2nd version iPhone since last June because i was stuck in a contract with verizon and wanted to wait for the 2nd one.

Yeh I've been waiting for the Iphone 2 since March 2008 and when the new one is out I am just going to buy the one with the most memory hopefully 32GB. I hope they have a contract option of £20/£25 or Pay as you go.

I'm not really sure what WWDC is exactly, but from what I've heard it sounds like developers teaching other developers tricks to... developing.

so, in my opinion, they wouldn't release 2.0 until a while after WWDC to give the developers time to work their newly-learned tricks into their iPhone apps!

I think I'll set awaken to play promenade at 6:00 tomorrow... :)

Edit: That's the time I expect the stevenotes to be available online.

(I just started using Awaken... it's proving itself to be very nifty... I've used it as a timer for food... an alarm clock to wake me up... a reminder of a wi-fi tournament I played in yesterday... and a reminder that it's time to go to church today. :D Very useful program! That Mac Heist II bundle was full of a lot of great stuff!)

Anyone know if Macrumors live coverage has pics? Then again, I will have three tabs open to Engadget and some other site's live coverage + macrumors. Yeah. That's what i will do.
