Re: iMac 20 with Intel processor: When I first installed a Maxtor external hard drive, Time Machine worked great, without intervention, for several months. It stills works great except, now when I log off (but not always), the connection to the external drive is lost (no icon on screen), and I have to throw the switch on the drive or Restart in order for it to be recognized (disconnecting and reconnecting the firewire also works). This is not a show stopper, but an annoying issue I would like to fix. All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

the comments to it, and also the blog post referenced. It covers the rationale for the default dismounting of the drive.

Thanks, that's good info. I really don't care if the time machine rests while I'm logged off, but I'm puzzled that the external drive is not recognized when I log back in. Any tips on how I can get the drive automatically located at login?
Thanks
