@mac is going to be dead. Maybe not for existing users, but dead to some degree.

Think about it, COMPUTER removed from Apple name.

(Pro's =smallest % of market base and still get screwed the most for now low end machine with good graphics, sorry have to get that in)..

So, anyway, where was I, oh yes, COMPUTER removed from Apple brand,
and if you have an iPhone and user a PC, what sense does .MAC make for you?
None.

While we may hate it, I think iLife (hey it's all X86 chips), will finally come out on for the PC. Maybe not, as this does separate the whole advantage of using a mac computer, but what if they did? Then all iPod users, iPhone users would be able to join .me and have their sharing page.

As much as we like to think we're special, (90% of the world do not know the iLife iweb templates, (imovie templates, nor iwork), if apple released iLife for all users, then .me makes sense as this means an on-line sharing community for everyone.

Now while its a slim chance that iLife will be for windows users (there goes that marketing out the door, so probably not), they are up to something for sure.

The PRO user is the smallest % market share and is now made up of iPhones and iPod users with many macbooks and iMacs switchers.

Everything is going to be focused on the iPhone now, this is going to be their staple, just them removing MAC from the MAC SPECIALIST term should tell you they are going to target everyone and somehow incorporate what was .MAC to all users that have an iPhone, and possibly down the road, iTOUCH or any device made by apple that can get online.

I think to keep them somewhat separate from windows users, this is why we may not see iLIFE for windows users, but something is coming as there are many many many users that are windows buyers that use iPods and iPhones.... and while you can log on to .MAC with a PC, you can't do anything with the iLIFE suite, (iWEB, iPhoto), so perhaps what me might start to see, is some type of integration with windows photo's, and who knows, maybe just a iWeb/iMovie program for windows.

Regardless, something is happening and it will point yet further away from APPLE or rather the word MAC as the computer portion is NOT APPLE'S priority and might not be for a while, unless of course, they do in fact, release a new HEADLESS sub $1000 mac that allows WINDOWS users that have a screen, mouse and keyboard purchase a machine that gives them the power they need, to jump into the digital world. Of course, this theory probably won't happen as much as the whole branding of MAC being suppressed will be. Makes more sense from an APPLE POV to move away from MAC and focus more on branding of their consumer products.

Just hope someday they come back to us and keep focusing on FCP, LOGIC, COLOR, MOTION.

What's a MAC?
Seriously, nobody knows what's going on with .Mac. Why not wait 8 days? If they increase the features/functionality of it, I don't care what they call it.

I often wonder if the people who post these stream-of-consciousness rants even read their posts back to themselves before hitting "submit."

Let's make this an intervention, then:

This was perhaps the most rambling, incoherent, pointless thread start I've seen on macrumors.

why cant apple make iLife for windows?

i would make sense if they did for a few reasons
1) sell more .mac accounts
2) make $80 profit for every iLife suite sold
3) show PC users AGAIN (other then iPods/iPhones) that apple's software IS superior, and apple designs everything thought out and elegantly.

So what if they cant say "...yah well we have iLife!" anymore, thats not necessarily a marketting trick or anythiing, iLife doesnt exactly sell macs all on its own, iLife is more like a little bonus that is nice to have.

Apple's software has never been superior on a PC. iTunes and Safari are sluggish on a PC, and Quicktime isn't much better. They should focus on their own platform, if you ask me.

One of the main selling points of a Mac is that every new machine comes with iLife. And what and incredible set of apps it is. The PC can't touch it. If Apple was to take that away by offering it to Windows users then what is the drive to buy an Mac? Apple would shoot themselves in the foot. Apple is all about selling hardware, and they can't do that without a solid set of "killer apps". So I don't see iLife being offered to Windows users. Not now, not ever.

How often do you use iLife?

well for one, apple isn't only a software company. not to mention that the APIs in OS X will not be easy to emulate on Windows, thus making the apps rubbish on Windows.

I know I haven't used any of them in over 4 months. They just sit on the hard drive never doing anything. I have to admit the first post was nothing more than an incoherent, unreadable rant.

Apple has certainly done some unexpected stuff in the past, but I'm not sure that I see iLife being as successful on Windows as it has been on Macs. Among the people who would considerate are people that would say "I'll hold off until I can just get a Mac," and people who would get it and say "now I don't need a Mac." Couple those people with the ones that wouldn't even know about it, and it doesn't seem like a huge formula for success.

Am I saying it couldn't be a success? No. I'm saying it would be hard to be confident it would be a success. Mac sales are the best they've ever been by a wide margin, so Apple would have to be crazy to change the formula unless they could be pretty confident that it would work to their advantage.
