View Full Version : Installing OEM XP

I've bought myself an OEM copy of Windows XP Pro 64 (while it's still available) for a computer I plan on building in a few months time (my first self-build). I just received the box with XP i it, but it says if I want to install it I have to to pre-install it using OPK. I don't really want to have to do all that; I just want to plop it in my disk drive, let it format my HDD and then install XP (the same as when you uninstall and then reinstall XP normally). Anyone have any ideas?

IIRC It's a licensing requirement rather than a physical one: You use the pre-installation to setup support details, etc that show in System properties. If you're comfortable ignoring that part of the license terms, it should install normally...

Yes I use an OEM version and just install as normal.

Ah that's good. How about reinstalling it? I wipe my HDD and do a clean install every few months, so will that be a problem?

Maybe,you might have to give M$ a bell on there toll free number and tell them that you have upgraded the hardware but still on the same machine
