Did 10.5.3 fix problem with certain FW drives not mounting on iMac?

I have a 24" Al iMac and certain external drives such as the WD MyBook Home 1TB does not mount in Leopard using FW800/400.

The WD forums contain lots of posts from other 10.5 users experiencing this problem. Firmware updates to the external drive did not fix the problem.

Anyone with an iMac that had this problem find it has been fixed with 10.5.3?

I've sold my external HD so can't test myself.
