I recently updated my MBP to 10.5.3 and my 160 GB Western Digital Passport drive disappeared. Now I can't get it it to mount or even appear in the Disk Utility. Anyone know of an incompatibility issue or had a similar experience?

Try plugging it into a PC, and then back into a Mac again. Worked for me.

It happens when you don't dismount properly before pulling it out of the USB port.

Run Disk Utility and see if it is in there. A drive with an error condition won't show in Finder, but will be in DU so you can run repair.

The problem was that it just unmounted itself while still being plugged in. I've tried putting it on a PC, and it sees the device but says there is a driver error. When I plug it in to my mac and go to DU, it's not even listed.

It's ****ed. Claim under warranty.
