Yeah, I think you will be able to break the lease judging by the problems. You signed the lease to get a safe place to live. If the electrical system is messed up you might be able to get out based on the fact that the faulty wiring may not be safe.

Also, you'll need to prove that you aren't causing the problem by plugging in more than the circuits are rated for -- make an inventory of your electricals with their Amp draw.

Where I come from, we have this thing that hangs on the wall and each circuit has this button/switch thingy that will turn everything on that circuit off if current draw is more than rated circuit.

But then again, it could be bypassed by placing a larger breaker than circuit is physically rated to handle which is an extreme fire hazard.

If so - move out. It'll never be repaired. I spent 6yrs there and of the dozen major issues I had, maybe one or two were addressed.

Nope- I'm in Lincoln Square. I like my landlord for the most part, but this needs to be taken care of- NOW.

Do you pay your own power bill separate from the rent, to the power co.

If you do, you should call them. Have them come take a look.
If they find anything thats not kosher, or up to code. You then would have something to work with.

Your power problems can come from 2 sources. One is inside your unit. The breaker/fuse panel a lug may be loose and the connection not making up good will dim them. Another on that same vein, is you have too many things on the circuit that your lights are on, and its drawing too many amps. That can be checked as well at the breaker box with an amp meter.

The other area/source, is the main transformer that send the power to your unit, may be going bad and have too much draw for the supply. The utility company, can check the second issue at no cost to you. The first, you need either a maintenance man or electrician to look at.

My knowledge is based on experience in the maintenance field. 24.8 years
