I see that 7200rpm notebook drives are finally available. Anyone tried fitting one.

They say that the loss of battery life is minimal especially with the hitachi. I've seen them for £170 which seemss quite reasonable.

i installed a 60gb hitachi 7200rpm w/ 8mb cache on a powerbook 667.
works great, and makes the system feel a bit snappier.
no issues whatsoever.

Where did you find this price? I have been looking to get something a little faster than the 4200 in my 17"pb.

well the test show that the 7200 HD does use significantly more power than the 4200 hd and its not much quicker than the 5400. and for $250, ack

I'm in the uk but if you look on ccl's (http://www.cclcomputers.com) website they are based in the north of England. Go to the online store then system components. They are the best value PC component retailers in the uk. Very reliable and helpful. RAM is also good quality and on a par price wise with Crucial. They also stock many SATA drives for G5's as well. Hope this helps.

For all those who say that a 7200 rpm drive isn't much faster or wastes a lot of battery life didn't read the article. Remember these are PC notebooks with woeful battery life. A 7200 Hitachi represents the same gain in speed as a 5400 does over a 4200. The difference in battery life between 4200 and 7200 is only 4 minutes!
