I just got a 15" PB and DP G4 Powermac, so at the moment, no.

I voted no, surpised by the 67.19%. My interest lies in a desktop, just not the iMac. My sites are set on the Power Mac G5. For now I'm happy with my Power Mac G4.

I'm eyeing a G5, not an iMac.

while I love having as much power as I can get my hands on for the office, which I don't have currently... I don't see much point in having a computing monster for home like a G5. don't get me wrong, I wouldn't turn it down, but I think for now I'd be better served by the 20" iMac. My wife and I have been discussing the purchase just in the last week, and depending on the $$ situation at our house, it being Xmas time and all, we may be getting one around the first of the year. We'll see - it just seems that they've finally made the screen big enough for me :D

I think the numbers are not too bad at all. I never expected the majority wanting to buy a 20" iMac anyway, since the product matrix of Apple reflects the different needs of different customers.

At least there seems to be a market for those puppies.

I have a 17 inch iMac and I love it. The extra 3 inches of screen don't really justify upgrading, especially since it still has the G4 in it.

actually i would love a bigger monitor and love the imac--- BUT--- and ill say it in one word----- G4. Im sorry but until they pull out that motorola piece of slow clocking crap ill wait or upgrade my old tower or buy a new cube if they make it with a G5. i would love a consumer tower half the size of the pro's and 1 fast G5 and decent video card. This is what consumers want, not a non upgradable, nice pretty monitor stuck to a slow G4.

i'm seriously considering one, and voted as such. my mother just bought a 17" imac and yeah, the real estate of the screen is still great, but i used a 20" at compusa and obviously, it is even better. i am considering just getting a 20" imac with a usb tv capture and replacing my TV all together, since i'm in college and all. plus, a 20" with so little desk space usage will be nice in the dorm room :-) but i'll still keep my 15" tibook, and i'm trying VERY hard to get rid of my Athlon XP machine to get money for an imac. i'd love to have a G5, but (a) i'm an LCD person, and i can't justify the cost of spending $1200-2000 for a big enough screen ON TOP of the G5 cost, and i won't use a 17" 4:3 LCD, 15" LCD, or any CRT monitor, (b) although the new educational price is great, i still cant cost justify the price considering how little i'll use the extra features, and (c) the imac is fast enough and powerful enough for me.

I voted no, but that's only because i already have a 17" imac and dont really need another desktop. I'm in the market for a powerbook.

i voted "i'm thinking about it", because $2200 is just way to high -- compared to a low-end g5 system anyway. i can get the 1.6ghz g5 for $1800 and a cheaper, granted not as good 20" flat display from another company for around $600-700. either way i'm perfectly happy with my 17"pb.

I purchased a 15" right before the 17" was available, and before I started following rumours as well, and though it is still adequate for my needs I really really would love that 20" screen so I am definitely eyeing it, I may sell my 15" soon but I really should look into a laptop before replacing my desktop.

I would love to have one, but I don't have the cash. If I did have the cash I don't think I would buy that mac. I would get an old powermac g4 on ebay. You can get huge deals. Get dual monitor going.
If someone wants to give me one though I would be more then happy:)

I just got a 17" Powerbook, so no. I'd love to add a 20" LCD to my existing iMac though! Now if Apple would only offer such an upgrade.

yeah i'm interested in buying one, with a faster processor (G5)though, not with an obsolete processor

I voted no as well, but like some of the others, it's because I already have a 15" iMac. It's still running quite well. Now if a G5 version were available.... :)

did I vote no.

I got a chance to use a 20" iMac this weekend and it is beautiful. I think you really have to see it in person to appreciate how awesome it is.

iMacs are not modular

i would never buy one

I'm with mc68k. Anyone who pays for a 20" monitor than they'll have to throw out when they want a faster computer is nuts. An Apple display only needs one cable for power and video anyway. How tiny and compact do we need to be?

I really like the compact design and easy monitor positioning of the iMac, but the 20" is still a bit expensive for what you get. I use an original 15" G4 iMac at work, but I doubt if I could get my boss to approve buying a new one. :(

Sometime in the next year I'd like to get my wife an iMac, but I think the 17" model will be more in our price range.

There should be an option for people who'd love to have one but don't got the dough. :(

Ditto. I think the 20" iMac is a desirable machine, just not for me right now. Put it this way: If it had come out when I bought my 17" iMac, I would've bought one.

20" screen is good
Fact that I can't change it between computers is bad.

I'd much rather spend that amount of money on a powerful G5 rather than a seriously under-spec'd fancy monitor

So now I've already got my G5 plus a pretty good trinitron vga monitor - i'll save and wait a few more months for the fancy monitor bit. I'd much rather have a G5 than last years G4.. :D

I jumped on the 17" back in March, and it does all I need it to. If anything, I'm spending my money on camera equipment. ;)

Well, i've played with the Imac20 and i was impressed by its appearance. Someone pointed out before that the screen completely hides the base behind it, so like its just this huge display floating right in front of you.

that said, considering that you're basically spending over half the cost of the machine just on the LCD makes me never want to buy one. the worst part is i actually had to read the description card to tell that it was the 20", it didn't really look all too different than the 17". It might be different if you could upgrade the imac, or even undock the display and use it seperately.

No.

You know why?

Because if your gonna spend thhhaattt much on a Computer you should be able to:

a) Upgrade more then the Ram
b) (And most importantly) REUSE THE MASSIVE SCREEN!

I mean really.

It is llarrge. You don't want to not be able to not reuse that puppy!

I don't really need an 'intelligent' monitor stand.

so when is Apple going to reduce the prices on the GeForce 4 ti cards? I have a dual 1gig G4 and it works just fine, although I could use a Ti card since I'm doing a whole lot more video on it since I got FCP4 on it now.

Last I checked, they were still $400!!! Does anybody know of a source for the cards that have the ADC on them?

rolnif,

Go on eBay periodically to see if anyone is offering Radeon 9700 Pro OEM models. Some people would upgrade to a 9800 Pro now and anything else that comes out in the future. So, over time, you will be able to get one more easily.

I have a GeForce 4 Ti on my MDD currently. But when 9800 Pro or better with ADC and DVI become available I'm upgrading and selling my Ti.

But, back to the poll.

I have a Dual 1.25 MDD with a 20" Cinema display so i would say no for now.

But it would make a hell of a secondary desktop so maybe when they throw a G5 in it.
