Hi, I am just wondering how the 15" MBP's resolution of 1440x900 compares to other 15" laptops. Is it better then most, or worse?

Also, in the future I plan on buying an external Blu Ray drive once Mac OS X supports it and they aren't $300. Will MacBook Pro's screen support full 1080p?

It's average - the majority of 15.4" widescreen displays have that resolution. I've seen some older Dell D800's with 1920x1200 on a 15.4" display, but everything is very tiny.

At the size of the screen you won't be able to tell the difference and yes it's 1080p displayable.

1440x900 CANNOT display 1080 at full resolution. If you try it in QuickTime, it will only show part of the window.

1080p implies a resolution of 1920×1080, so the mbp display will not display a 1080p move in all its glory. i'm hoping there is a blu-ray option in the coming mbp's, so at least i can view it in full resolution on my external.

if you play it in fullscreen QuickTime player will down scale it to 720p.

I wish they would just increase the resolution to 1680x1050. That's the only upgrade I really want in a MBP right now. You'd also be able to "almost" watch BR movies in full res. You'd lose some of the movie on the side, but I don't know how bad it would be. The 1440x900 resolution on the current model certainly isn't enough.

Only the high-resolution version of the 17" MBP could display a BR movie in full resolution.

The 1920x1200 option on the 17" can though ;)
