More sealed boxes are reportedly arriving at Apple Stores worldwide with Arstechnica (http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/06/08/apple-retail-receiving-shipments-new-signs-for-monday) reporting that the London Regent Street Apple Store has received "a single box that is padlocked, and under orders to be put in a safe until Monday."
The image of the above box was sent in anonymously and correlates to the box (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/06/06/australian-resellers-receive-mysterious-boxes/) that supposedly was sent to some Australian resellers.
We've also heard that Germany's T-Mobile has already received subsidized rate plans for the iPhone coming in at a subsidized 99, 199 and 299 euros. These are prices for hardware with a 2 year contract, but may only represent two distinct models, as the amount of subsidy depends on what rate plan is chosen. For comparison, T-Mobile Germany currently offers 4 prices (99, 149, 199, 249 euros) for the 8GB iPhone alone depending on the rate plan chosen. Meanwhile, the current 16GB iPhone (499 euro) has not been eligible for any discounts regardless of rate plan.
Finally, news is coming out (http://utvv.blogspot.com/2008/06/new-iphone-to-be-sold-at-99-in-spain.html) of Spain that the new iPhone will be sold there starting at 99 euros by Corriere.it (http://www.corriere.it/economia/08_giugno_07/iphone_spagna_90_euro_3c25df08-3467-11dd-befe-00144f02aabc.shtml).
Apple will be announcing their new products at the WWDC 2008 keynote speech on Monday, June 9th at 10am Pacific. We will have live web/photo coverage at MacRumorsLive (http://www.macrumorslive.com) as well as Twitter, SMS and Spoiler free coverage (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/06/02/wwdc-keynote-coverage-toucharcade-spoiler-free/).

We keep hearing about Apple stores getting in shipments of mysterious boxes... but I have not heard anything about AT&T stores getting anything at all.
Are the new phones only going to be available at Apple directly? I don't get it. The nearest Apple store to me is an hour away :( There are three AT&T stores nearby, so I am hoping to be able to pick one up at one of those...
Am I gonna have to wait until tomorrow to find out? :p

There's no point in just doing a straight conversion based on current rates. Apple seldom prices their products that way.

So although I'd love to believe that these are real images... I doubt that they are. If you look at the images on web-mobile.net.. and you scroll all the way down to the last image, of the iphone sitting in the box alone on the wood grain table, you can see that the underside of the iphone is 3/4 silver aluminum with the black booty. It's not completely black like the reversed image would have you believe.
Look closely and you can tell. Its iPhone 1 with a skin over the screen... an ugly skin too.

Jun 8, 2008, 07:29 PM
Well since the boxes are fake, do you think the prices listed are?
And what are those prices in american?
Well the "American" price compared to the Euro price, or even the UK pound price, is often 1:1. This doesn't really mean much, given that T-Mobile Germany won't be selling in the US, but a US equivalent promotion would mean a $99-250 iPhone.

If history is any indication, Apple Stores do get deliveries before big events, with instructions about when to open them.
People leaking these photos should be careful how they hold the box. They might be identified by their fingerprints!
If it's really starting at €99 that probably means about £79, which means I will be most certainly getting one of those - and transferring to which even network (presumably O2) offers it!
Hurray for toys!

All right, well, given AT&T's blackout dates, I guess it would make sense if the iPhone didn't go on sale on Monday and Steve just showed one onstage, and gave resellers brochures and/or a demo phone to have in the meantime. Then it will go on sale at the end of the month, I suppose.
But at least we'll be getting some answers tomorrow, after all this speculation!!!

If the photo is from Aus then it look like it is most likely a reseller, NextByte or some other official branch, as we have no official Apple Stores here yet, and thus they are not required to wear 'Apple Uniform' as such. The OSX lanyard that the person in the photo is wearing indicates that they likely work for an official reseller.
Just to stir it up a little, a news report in today's paper here states that the Sydney Apple Store will open at 5pm on the 19th of June, thus there is speculation that that will be the iPhone on sale date here in Aus. At the Village Pointe store in Omaha, NE...normally that would be nothing to cheer about, except John (The Leopard walkthrough guy) is their GM and anytime he disappears it usually means something is coming up and he was helping film the guided tour.
I was getting the MagSafe adapter replaced on my MBP and was just idly chatting with some of the Genius Bar guys when I asked them "So if I was to bet money that the 3G iPhone comes out tomorrow, would I be richer or poorer?"
The two Mac Geniuses I was talking to both looked at each other and smiled then said "Richer". Right about that time an assistant manager came over and gave them the look of death and they switched the topic.
Take that for whatever its worth, but I have a feeling that its definitely iPhone stuff in those boxes. Probably just in store promo stuff, as others have said, but exciting nonetheless.

There is an 8 hour time difference between San Francisco and London. Even if Jobs walks out at 10AM and shows off a new iPhone, it's still already 6pm in London. I don't know how late they stay open, but I'd suggest not opening the package until Tuesday too. Though, if I were the manager of that store I'd probably open it early. ;)

If you look at the second picture on web-mobile you can see some reflection on the plastic wrap of the black iPhone box inside. That seems like either some argument that its real or some very careful photoshop work. Personally, I say its 100% fake because its flat grey. We've heard black, white and even red, but grey? That color is hideous...it doesn't really seem consistent with Apples style seeing as how they almost only use black, white or heavy gloss on their products. That grey face just looks stupid to me. Also, something about the angles of the reflection of the envelope on the phone/wrapping in the third picture looks kind of fishy to me. I don't think we've seen the new iPhone yet.

That doesn't really mean it's fake. You just think it makes it fake.
In the Australian Box thread the stamp seal below the white lable is blue/gray and towrds the middle while the one in this thread is green and towrds the left....
So these are two different boxes....
May be these are genuine boxes from Apple if they have arrived at multiple retailers. I was doubting these boxes earlier because normally people stamp seal the boxes so that half of the stamp seal is on the label and half on the box....

Its self-replicating.Or Apple has no way to meet the expected demand so they've divided up the little stock they have, one box per store. There are more stores than there used to be!
Or... they want high demand to build even more hype, so they will deliver the other waiting 99,999 boxes to each store later.

If these boxes are for real then each store got to have received more then.... Normally large companies the size of Apple ship multiple units (often a few spares) as part of the PROCESS protocol to cover contingencies.
Also considering the amount of hype and anticipation that the iPhone has generated.... the number of ppl wanting to lay their hands on the hot new baby.... its just not practicle enough to have just one phone per shop.... If its for training purposes only and the iPhone is not coming out until a week or so then why not just ship it over very close to WWDC or may be a lil after the WWDC.... why let it out in the open if you dont want the beans to be spilled??
That being said.... either these boxes contain training materials or they are a hoax. In any case the contents of these boxes will not meet the public eye until the stores are stocked up with enough quantities to let everyone have a go at it....

Look, it's obvious Apple is going to release or at least announce something at WWDC because of what has been cropping up in the iPhone 2.0 firmware, and the fact Steve is doing a keynote.
Chances are, a store like Regent Street will get promotional items, or an early store unit because it's a flagship store.
I'm calling this one genuine.
Or even if the picture isn't genuine, the fact remains that some Apple Stores will have items in the stores related to what Steve is going to talk about tomorrow.
It's common sense.
Edit: Or... they want high demand to build even more hype, so they will deliver the other waiting 99,999 boxes to each store later.

About 155, 310, and 465.
So, discounting the Euro premium, I would say $99, $249, and $399. However, a $150 difference between them is a little too much, but the middle pice point with a 16gb/3g/video chat would make me retire my day one 8gb, it's looking pretty rough.

It IS still weeks away - Steve himself said "late June" for the 2.0 firmware. We'll see the final version of the SDK tomorrow but the firmware update etc needs to be field tested with the final code before release. We won't see 2.0 tomorrow - or maybe we will. But we probably won't.

Hmmm, I thought so too.
As well, some say phone on sale tomorrow? Here's what I don't get - it seems the debunked box, if true, has a DVD or software, which is abnormal unless it ships with software for no-connectivity for iTunes, plus the box shows one phone (DEMO) which would mean announced tomorrow and doesn't ship until later in the month like the FIRST iPhone and coincides with the same time frame as last year PLUS the time frame of when AT&T employee's can take off or not, so, there is a good chance, a very good chance the phone might be announced but not shipped for a few more weeks.
What say you?

The name '3G' on the SIM card has nothing to do with working on a 3G phone, but he can switch the SIMs if he unlocks the 3G iPhone. Hopefully that will be a zero day hack.

That's a tiny box, compared to what it might hold. I'm assuming it's new Nanos in that box. iPhone it's not, maybe new iPod Touch, but not iPhone, I mean how many can they have in that tiny box? Not a lot. Not very economical. So, it's not that.
What it might be is something either brand new or who knows.

Here's my observation of the pictures on web-mobile:
1. Why is the shipping label be on the bottom? it just doesn't seem like a wise thing to do (it encourages the package to be handled upside down constantly and shakes everything loose).
2. The second box inside does not have a lid, and judging how the literature and the CD is placed, there were no foam packing material as well.
3. In one of the pictures, the iPhone box was lower inside the second box, but in the following picture, it was higher, as if it was propped up. If you're unboxing something, would you do that even for just taking pictures? Wouldn't you just take the iPhone box out and put it on a table?
4. There's just way too much space in there for things to move around, in other words, there were no thought put into the packing process, and Apple is known to put A LOT of thoughts into packing their products.

That is a few good question. This is my thoughts on why we haven't heard much in the United States.
AT&T stores maybe more tight lipped about the launch because of the leaks last time around. The Apple stores may be the same.

I'm not doubting the validity of the boxes. But I would think that unless this newer iPhone is DRASTICALLY different than the first, why would you need all the training material to be so secret? If rumors hold true it is just new functions the phone can do. All of these training materials are for that one more thing...

The boxes have to be fake. But who really cares? It'll all be hindsight tomorrow.
For what it's worth, note the size difference between the "original" mystery box, it's label and the new one. The new box appears to be larger than the original.
Apple is too meticulous about their packaging to send products, especially new ones, out in odd-sized boxes. If they existed, I'm sure they'd all be the same size with the same contents. UnLESS.........conspiracy........
There is more than one new product arriving in mystery boxes....... *queue mysterious sound effect*

if you take a close look at the box, the seam running down the middle splits the box in half. You could fit approximately 5 gen 1 iPhone boxes in both the top and bottom of that box. Thais the answer, each box contains 10 new 3g iPhones in their respective boxes.

Hey you can believe me. Seriously, because I admit it in the chat room.

Just a heads-up; the plural of euro is euro. Kthxbai.
Er not really. When I need currency for a trip abroad, I say I'm going to the Bureau de Change to get some Euros (or some Dollars...or whatever). Just sounds wrong without the s. "I'm going to get some Euro for my trip to France?" Wrong. Mind you, I'm just grateful we don't have euros in the UK ;)

why did he get banned?
I'm guessing he got banned because as he admitted, he created another MR profile. This is not allowed, I believe you have to agree to this term along with others before you can sign up. I'm sure you will find this was why he was banned. Nothing to do with pressure from Apple on the Mods to "plug the leak".
Although you never know ;)

No it isnt, its frickin' euros.
You use slang like 'heads-up', but we must obey some nonsensical BS about plurals.
Give me a break.
Pounds, Euros, Dollars, Francs, Dinars, the list goes on.......
Language is made by speaking it, NOT by some insane arcane minor power-tripping idiot at some over-priced and underwhelming British university.
Gag me with pedantry.

There's no point in just doing a straight conversion based on current rates. Apple seldom prices their products that way.
".....the London Regent Street Apple Store has received "a single box that is padlocked, and under orders to be put in a safe until Monday."
It most certainly does not.
Good idea.
Cardboard boxes for delivery normally contain other boxes inside them, possible the one inside that is padlocked. Most products aren't hanging around loose inside cardboard boxes, but inside some sort of proper packaging

I only read that the photos showing the box "opened" were fake. I never read that the photos of the unopened boxes were fake.

I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully they will be updating it very soon. :) I still have my fingers crossed for Apple to release and start selling the new phone today.

OK, I'm gonna say someone has WAY too much time on their hands. If they didn't put so much time into making it look like a sneaked shot (like the black blurry border) I might have actually... well... not dismissed it immediately...
Although it would definitely seem right that Apple would release something like this to replace the mini...

We took photos as we did it for those interested, which I'm sure will be more than a few :)

what's stopping stores from opening the box now? i highly doubt someone from apple will be coming within the nxt 2 hrs before the 10th. and if they have already come to 'check' the box....um hello? OPEN IT ALREADY!!!
although, in most cases, all apple stores would be closed right now and re-open at their usual times tomorrow morning, which is when they wud open their boxes. :( arghhh

Went to the Regent Street store today to get my MacBook repaired (still under warranty so I get a new HD with Leopard free (I was still using Tiger), only downside is I have to wait a week.) and whilst the Genius was doing the paperwork I said, "So, the keynotes tonight, 3G iPhone?", and all he said was "Somethings going on downstairs". Meh.

The ones in Australia were an elaborate prank. Inside was an old dead hard drive. I'm pretty sure the other mysterious boxes were complete fakes.
