I'm looking for a comprehensive list of 360 Coop games that can be played local network. I was in Best Buy the other day and there were only a couple of games that listed red coop (back of package), my understanding is that means via Xbox live only and no games that listed green coop (local network).

I've heard of this new coop game in development that involves zombies and will rely on heavy duty coop play. Can anyone refresh my memory for me as to its name and when it's do out?
Thanks.

edit: I did find these links:
1. About.com (http://xbox.about.com/od/toppicks/tp/toptencoop.htm) Top 10 Xbox Coop Games.
2. List of xbox360 compatible original xbox games (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm).
3. Xbox 360 Coop games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_coop_games).

Time Splitters is not on the 360 compatible list. Anyone know if it will play on the 360 or would you say if it's not on the list, it won't play?
Thanks again!

I think I found it: Left For Dead (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/01/12/left-4-dead-co-op-zombie-slaying-action/). :D Release date Nov 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_4_Dead).

Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Left4Deads coming to consoles? I thought it was a PC only title :) learn something new every day.

I've played Gears of War and Halo 3 (even the odd game of Halo 1) in co-op, much better than playing on your own I find.

So far my best coop list includes these outstanding titles:

1. Halo Series
2. Gears of War 1/2
3. Left 4 Dead

Any others?

Perfect Dark Zero

It's an o.k. game but nothing to write home about imo. (Not said to piss you off.)

I just discovered Resident Evil 5 (http://games.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1275/Resident-Evil-5/) has coop!! Now I need to review that thread complaining about it. ;)

How about any sports/racing/1v1 fighting game?

But IDK if you'd consider it "co-op" if you are on opposing teams.

Also, Dynasty Warriors, if you like that sort of thing. (I do).

Thanks for the suggestion. I consider opposing teams as 1v1 multiplayer. Mostly I'm into shooters and RPGs for cooping fun. I've played a little Soul Calibur on PS2 and it got old pretty fast although I enjoyed Oni (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oni_(video_game)) despite its horrid levels (and it had no coop). ;)

I've been on the same boat, wanting to play more coop games with my buddy.

- Gears of War 1/2 campaign is AWESOME. After that, you can still log in endless playtime in GOW2's Horde mode.

- We played Left 4 Dead. It was an OK game but it was more of a rental for us (which we did rent, glad I didn't buy it). Yes it's supposed to be different every time but even then, it's pretty much the same all over.

- How about COD 4 & 5? I played COD4's campaign myself and working on COD 5, and they're both excellent games.

- Halo 3 is probably good. I haven't played through it myself, but after played GOW and COD campaigns, I don't like Halo as much anymore.

- We tried to play Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and then Perfect Dark Zero coop. We tried one level each to see what we should play next. Not bad for both, but we picked neither and played more GOW2 instead!

If you guys just want to work together (and not necessarily play for a story), try playing online and being on the same team. That should be unlimited fun too.

Call of Duty 4 and 5 has offline coop? (We just have one xbox). I'll check it out. Thanks!

edit: Does not appear they do...

BTW, regarding L4D, rushes and specialized zombies come at different times each time you play. Unless there is an event built into the game, like calling for the elevator (and you get a warning before hand), events are randomized. I guess it boils down to personal taste whether or not you like it. I gave it a big thumbs up. :)

Oops, COD4 doesn't have split screen coop, but I think COD5 does. From some sites I'm reading, COD5's offline coop is a bit different from its single player, with not as many missions to select and being unable to save your progress (unless you beat that mission in single player). So yeah, it's a dumbed down version it looks like.

Regarding L4D again, I'm sure you'll like the game. I think I would have liked the game more if I had a full 4 player coop game going, but I only had 2.

I've seen this in one other game, Kameo Elements of Power (360) required you to complete a level solo before it would allow you to coop it. Utterly stupid! Thanks for the COD5 info. I'll check it out.

Also, N+ is just about the best party game there is for the 360. Simple platform fun for everyone.

Lord of the Rings Conquest (http://games.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/2009/The-Lord-of-the-Rings-Conquest/)- I'm getting mixed signals. This Team Xbox page does not indicate offline splitscreen coop. But other sources like Co-Optimus (http://www.co-optimus.com/review/128/Lord_of_the_Rings__Conquest_Co-Op_Review.html) says it does.

Just played through Gears of War 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gears_of_War_2) split screen offline coop on the 360. If you've not played GOW2, and you liked the first one, this game has more options, amazing visuals/cinematics, besides the fighting, an interesting story line, including an emotional and possibly controversial twist as Dom searches for his missing wife. All my favorites came back including the Cole Train, Baird, Anya, and Hoffman. It's a worthy successor of to the original.

Although rated M for mature, it has options to turn off gore and the f'n language. It's well worth playing and now you can get it for around $25 used, either at ebay or Amazon. Go play! :D

The games cinematic are so good, you could be watching a movie. I wonder when the GOW movie is gonna come out and... the real question, who could possibly play Marcus Fenix? His character's voice has imprinted on me. I'm thinking maybe Jim Carrey or Steve Carrel. :p ;)

And yes the cinematics are good, it is like watching a movie... a B-movie!
But I jest. Partially.

Well, framed on the type of game, it's as engrossing as it can be for a shooter? Can't let story or anything else get in the way of the action. As far as cinematics, compare it to something like Final Fantasy, The Spirits Within and it's surprisingly good IMO. The virtual camera work and focus is very good. :)

Ah I guess I can give it that. They are pretty well presented. And I did a "holy *****" when that big worm monster gobbled up the helicopter! It's enjoyable and I'd play through a GoW3 if they make one. Hell I'd have started on GoW1 but all 3 (yes, 3!) of our GoW1's are scratched to high heaven. Just up to the area with the falling ice shard things.

It's a shame that more games aren't splitscreen. They always make for the best multiplayer games I find (and games that share 1 screen like Smash Bros).

I played through Castle Crashers the other month with a friend. It's pretty good for co-op play: you can see elements taken from games like Ninja Turtles, River City Ransom, and Guardian Heroes, but it has enough self-styling to hold its head up high as a unique entry within the beat-em-up genre.

It looks like this could be fun on coop, but I tried it (the trial version) solo and after about 10 min, my hand started getting sore from constant button mashing. Been a while since I've done a game like this. :)

Having friends cuts down on the button-mashing a little bit, but it is a beat-em-up after all ;). I wouldn't want to play it solo; without a friend to laugh at it with, the game just gets too monotonous.

This weekend I purchased the new coop map pack for Left 4 Dead called "Crash Course (http://www.l4d.com/crashcourse/)". Chronologically it's links No Mercy with Death Toll. On Xbox it cost about 600 credits (approx $4). It offered about 45 min of play though two sections (1 safe house stop). It's short, if you are a L4D fan, it's fun, although the final fight on top of an armored bus was NOT nearly as challenging as the No Mercy finale and the level design was blah, more same-0.

Meh, I thought Crash Course was a bit rubbish... and I got it for free! I couldn't imagine paying money for 2 maps. They're not even well designed, just make your way through some streets (again) :o.
Takes about 35-40 mins on Versus, usual run time for me and my friends is 13 mins (then again we can speed run No Mercy in 17 mins).

Left4Dead 2 next month though. Should be another stellar co-op game!

A friend and I played up through level 9 today in Borderlands. Unique, good looking graphics. Outstanding coop experience imo. 2 Player split screen offline. Some confusion can be avoided the sooner you locate your backpack. (Back button, then LB to scroll through the categories.) Coming from Halo, I was not thinking about backpacks and for a while, was peeved about losing a rifle that was in my inventory all of the time.

I just played the L4D2 (http://www.l4d.com/home.html) demo (xbox live), more coop goodness! Mostly more of the same, but a new setting (New Orleans), some new abilities, new weapons, new mobs. Ellis (guy with hat) could easily be Jason Stackhouse (Trueblood). :)

Tip: If you see a frypan or machetter and contemplate using it for a weapon, it's not nearly as good as your pistol and besides, I could not find my pistol laying around after I made the switch.

Having to give up your pistol with it's never ending ammo, for a melee weapon seems to be quite a sacrifice. Now if you could cycle between all three...rifle/shotgun/machinegun+pistol+melee, that would be better.

There are a couple games I play coop in addition to the stuff that has already been discussed here.

Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga - Obviously this is a more family oriented game, but I really enjoy it. All of the Lego games are very fun. You can play 2-player coop, either on the same console, or over Live. The odd thing is, Lego Star Wars was the first game that Travelers Tales released in their Lego series, and it had coop. Every one since then has not. Real bummer, because Lego Indy and Lego Batman are better games. But, Lego Star Wars is good fun.

Crackdown - This game is one of my favorite 360 games ever. It is just a load of fun to run around the game world blowing crap up and just generally destroying everything. The game is even better when you get 2 players in it. You have access to the entire game world at all times, so you can either team up on objectives or split up and accomplish them quicker. A very highly overlooked game, and one that is great fun in coop.

Crackdown 2 is coming out in a few weeks, and it looks to just expand on everything from the first one. The story mode can now do 4 player coop, and they are adding a 16 player competitive multiplayer. I can't wait.

No, sadly, it is only online coop.

As for gameplay, it is a 3rd person action game. Think of GTA, but you're the cops, and you have amazing abilities. The leveling in the game happens by doing certain things. You have 5 main abilities; Agility, Strength, Shooting, Driving and Explosives. Kill enemies with a gun, and you get shooting skill. Run them over, or win a race, and you gain driving skill. And so on.

You gain agility by collecting the green Agility orbs which are scattered throughout the city at the tops of buildings and ledges and things. The more of those you collect, the higher your level gets, and the higher you can then jump. You can grab on to window ledges and things like that to climb up buildings to get to the rooftops. It is a very vertical game. Hunting down orbs gets quite addicting.

It will be hard for any cart racer to top MK64, because that game was excellent, but have you tried BLUR? It is from Bizarre Creations, the studio that made the Project Gotham series. Obviously, it doesn't LOOK like a cart racer, but deep down, it really is. It uses real, licensed cars, but as you race you are constantly grabbing power-ups and firing them at the other racers. There is all different types of power-ups, many that are similar to things you use in Mario Kart. There are what essentially amount to red shells, green shells, banana peels, mushrooms, etc. It is quite fun, and actually looks really nice as well, so that doesn't hurt.

There is a demo available on the marketplace. Give it a shot and see if that fits your needs. I played the demo a while back and had a good time with it.

Yea, that game is ace. I have it for PS3, and even to this day, I think it is one of the best looking current-gen games. Very arcadey, but that type of game is a blast. The online free-roam multiplayer mode is great fun, just racing around the city crashing into other players, setting quick sector times, etc. Great fun.

Wow, that is a bummer, because that game is a total blast. My only guess is that with the crazy speeds that you race at, and with all the crap flying around on screen, getting local co-op was just too hard for them to get decent framerates with. The online co-op is great, if that is any concession for you.

Turns out there is an add-on for Burnout Paradise for 800 credits (approx $10) that does not add coop but it adds turn based challenges where you swap off. I guess I'll have to think bout that, but maybe I will. :)

OK, time for the perennial co-op thread-bump :p

I'm going to recommend the original Perfect Dark on XBLA for a variety of reasons:

- The controls/auto-aim make it a bit easier for people who don't have as much experience with modern FPS games.

- Lots of stuff to do: Solo mission co-op/counter-op, Co-op Challenges, and a million ways to mix it up in the combat simulator*.

- Tons of stages/weapons/items to choose from, as well as multiplayer stages + weapons from the original N64 Goldeneye.

- It's fun! Get a bunch of people on Live and play free-for-all, in teams, or band together against waves of cpu-controled enemies.

- It's cheap! Only 800 points for a game with an incredible amount of replay value.

Back in the day, I preferred Goldeneye over Perfect Dark due to frame rate issues on the latter. Now that everything runs smooth on the 360, all of the extra multiplayer options + Live play make PD really come into its own. Have fun!

*Tip: Before customizing your own matches in the Combat Simulator, play through as many Challenges as you can. Doing so will unlock a lot more options/gear for when you do your own custom matches.

Any relation to Perfect Dark Zero? Just wondering. PDZ is on the old side.

Yup, they were both made by Rare. Zero came about many years after the original Perfect Dark, which was released in 2000 for the N64 (back when Rare still worked for Nintendo). So yeah, the game is pretty old :D. They updated the graphics (HD resolution, and all that) for the XBLA release, but not too much. It doesn't look like a modern FPS graphics-wise, but I was never big on realistic shooters, so it's a plus in my book. Given the space limitations of N64 cartridges that Rare had to work with, the story mode is incredibly short by modern standards, but it's really the combat simulator where you'll have lots of fun with friends.

As for controls, they've been updated be dual-analog friendly. There are a bunch of presets that mimic the layouts of modern FPS franchises, as well as a classic mode for people like me where Goldeneye was the last FPS I played :p.

Lately I've been playing Monday Night Combat (http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox360/monday-night-combat/review/monday-night-combat-review/a-20100806154915474034/g-2010030812726923036) (Xbox Arcade game). It's ok, it reminds me of Ratchet and Clank although it does not have hardly any environmental depth as compared to R&C. From what I've seen so far there are just main arenas, not sprawling levels.

Anyone know if Halo Reach and COD Black Ops will have 3-4 player campaign co-op? I've read different previews and I'm not sure...

Thanks.

I don't know about COD, but I know for sure that Reach DOES have 4-player co-op. You can do 4 players for campaign over XBL, or 2 player local on the same Xbox. Same for Firefight mode as well.

Played about 5 hours of Halo Reach coop this weekend. OK, so the game has grown on me. :) We enjoyed the flying missions and just got to the Chapter called Pillar of Autumn, a sentimental name for any true Halo affectionato. :p Anyone know how close to the end of the game we are? Not that we want to be, just figure we are approaching the end.

I've only played Halo once before, but Reach sounds very co-op friendly, so I might have to check it out.

In other news.... Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is very fun to play co-op, even if you're like me and haven't read the comics or seen the movie. Unfortunately, it's local co-op only... no Live for now.

Damnation (http://www.codemasters.com/games/?gameid=2654)- Coop split screen shooter. It's biggest attraction is navigating multiple vertical environments. Animation and A.I. are weak imo. Coop makes it bearable.

Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia (http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/755/755278.html). Includes offline coop, but it's on one screen, which can be annoying at times. It's mearly ok, coop makes it bearable.

Offline co-op (same screen):

Borderlands
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
The side missions in COD:MW2 (not the campaign)

I'm curious has anyone played Unreal Tournament 3 on Xbox? My understanding is that it is split screen. Can you and another play on same side against bots?
Thanks!

Looking for a good coop shooter with ideally a good campaign, maybe something along the lines of Gears of War.

Red Faction: Armageddon (http://www.redfaction.com/games/red-faction-armageddon) or Rage (http://rage.com/gate/?return=%2F#), by iD a company whose past games have been very enjoyable. strengths and weaknesses? What do you guys think? One or both? ;)

I am pissed. As Rage has not been released, we purchased Red Faction:Armageddon which clearly states on the box offline coop in green. Bullxxxx! There is no offline coop. Is there something I'm not understanding about xbox game markings? $60 is too much to spend on a mistake.

In the EU false advertising is illegal, hopefully it is in the US too... take it back!

Been playing Toy Soldiers: Cold War and it is awesome. It's a really fun strategy game. It pays homage to 80's action flicks kinda. You even get to play as a Rambo type character that screams and yells like Stallone did in the movies while he shoots rockets in one arm and a machine gun in the other arm.

Toy Soldiers is quite good imo. Outstanding for an indie game.

Two more co-op arcade games:

Radiant Silvergun (http://marketplace.xbox.com:80/en-US/Product/Radiant-Silvergun/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258410a54): Treasure's vertical shooter for the Saturn, supports 2-player co-op. The game is pretty unforgiving, so it's best to get some play time in to get extra credits or unlock free play before grabbing a friend. If you're looking for something a bit more accessible and polished, grab Ikaruga (http://www.actionbutton.net/?p=402) instead (it's also cheaper (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Ikaruga/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258410878)!).

Guardian Heroes (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/GUARDIAN-HEROES-TM/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258410b2b): Another Treasure game ported from the Saturn, this time with updated graphics and art. It's a side-scrolling beat-em-up/action-rpg crossover, but the controls are more reminiscent of Street Fighter than other games in the genre. Average playthrough is ~45 minutes, but the game has branching paths and 30 stages in total, so for $10 it has a good bit of replay value. The story mode supports 2-players while the (nominally interesting) arena mode supports 12 players over Live. Here's a review from Co-optimus (http://www.co-optimus.com/review/897/page/1/guardian-heroes-hd-co-op-review.html).

Finally, I can't believe we didn't mention the Portal 2 co-op mode yet. Not that much replay value perhaps, but still a fun adventure.
