Did I buy the wrong mic?

I needed a mic to do some basic audio recording over some video and slideshows.

I went to my local music store with the intent on buying a USB Samson Q1U mic. They didnt have any so I left with an Apex181 USB Mic.

Testing it out, sounds great, sounds far better than I expected expect this.

I only get left side, 1 channel playback and recording.. either in mono or in stereo.. in Garageband it says STEREO 1/2 or MONO 1 or MONO 2

Is this right? DO I need more to record basic audio that sounds nice and full sound on both the left and right sides?

you're micing a mono source, so you should be recording to a mono track. mono defaults to playing both L and R equally.

are you saying that gb defaults its panpots to something other than straight up the middle? That would be strange.
