Maybe I missed something. Anyways, I WAS going to buy a white one because I want the 16 GB HDD and then hope that some vendor comes out with a slick case/skin to cover the blandness of it. But, if you guys are right, then I'm definitely buying a black 16 GB one.

The white one isn't as polished, design-wise as the black. Mainly the contrast of the color vs. logo. The black has a nice white apple logo to balance it. The white model has a WHITE/silvery logo...hard to see. It would have made more sense to have a black logo on the white model.

I am definitely going to get the 16gb. When I first saw the black I thought black all the way, but white has been growing on me. Black looks sleeker but the white is more feminine (yes I am girl) and only available with 16gb, so that means less people will have it. I just don't want the white one getting dirty after using it for 15 minuters. I will for sure have to see them both in person but I would say its a tie right now......

The Apple logo is just a mirror finish, exactly the same as the current model! It's colour depends on what it is reflecting ;)

The logo is reflective, so in some photos it's going to appear black, in others, white. It's shiny, and the lighting affects the perceived color.

Something to consider with the white backing: if you slip a white iPhone into a colored, semitransparent protective case, you could change it to any color. The white will show the color better.

Black is undoubtedly classy. But the whole black and chrome scheme seems to look like every other phone on the market. It doesn't exude the smug "think different" charm that apple has represented in their products and in a way how we sometimes wish to be perceived through using them.

Black reminds me of Darth Vader, shiny... black ....plastic. Darth Vader, issss pretty sexy though, but maybe it's because there's only one Darth Vader. If the polls are right, there's about twice as many Darth Vader phones as there is stormtrooper phones and that doesn't make Vader seems as sexy anymore.

Problem is that most people probably won't care enough to know the capacity/color availability. Someone will see a black iPhone and think "hey, it's an iPhone." Not "OMG COULD BE ONLY 8 GIGS!!!"

Well of course but I'm talking in a sense like when the iPod was out--if you saw white earbuds you knew what was up. When the black macbook came out you knew what was up! I'm guess I'm talking among tech geeks and people that just get it for a status symbol as sad as that sounds.

Somehow I do not think the guys from BrokeBack would be getting white.

If you still think white is a feminine color you are definately over 40. Styles CHANGE! I was actually shocked a few years back to see guys in their 20's wearing white sunglass frames. My first thought was that they were wearing womens sunglasses.

But no, they are mens glasses and I see them mostly on the young straight surfer types.

White is no longer for girls only. I will actually make my final color choice based 90% on what it looks like to me in person. The final 10% is based on whether I actually get to choose based on my place in line. I WILL NOT get an 8MGB model. THAT would be a waste of time for me.

apparently the 5g ipod and iphone 3g have a different type of plastic. one scuffs, the other "feels solid". In another thread a AT&T employee's friend had an initial look at the device and mentioned that the thing pics up fingerprints, but hasnt shown any signs of scratches. he even took a key to the back of it. Will I get a white or black? So far im thinking black because I simply think it looks more put together (same color on both sides). Will I definitely? Nope, Im still considering the white one, but will need to see it in person for the last minute final decision.
