I'm not sure I get this, so in the UK it will cost 100 pounds? Seems kinda cheap

He said that 199 was the max, though I'm thinking that it would be 199 of the local currency. For you guys, it'll probably be something like 129 quid.

Don't worry, nobody really gets it right now. The price was initially seen as wonderful, but the new At&t info is rolling out, and things have just gotten all sorts of confusing. For us in the US that is... I don't think it is really all that much more clear for you over there either.
Give it a week, it should become more clear. At least that is what I am telling myself....

Nope, I believe he said specifically US $199 max.

I can't see that happening. That will get me the iPhone for a price equal to $50.

Are they producing the iPhone under the US dollar or the Yen?
It seems strange that he said US$199 because the Euro would bankrupt Cupertino. Perhaps they are expecting an absurd revenue from AppStore and are making a slim margin as was the case with the AppleTV.

They did say the maximum price around the world would be $199, so thats £100 in the UK, however they will probably put it up a bit, Apple always do when they sell stuff in the UK :(
Still gonna be cheaper than the old one, though.
They will have to lower iPod touch prices too, for anyone who wants to get one of them.

No, I imagine it'll be £269 for the eight gig.

If the whole rest of the world can now subsidize, including the carriers who early on agreed to revenue sharing, then I'd guess they'd price it similarly to their other smartphones.
In other words, in some countries the price could be free or almost free, depending on demand. And with the competition out there, we've already seen the old model priced super cheap in places like Germany, in order to get sales.
