When I get my G5 I would just buy two flat panel LCD's from FutureShop or something for under $1g.

i'd love a widescreen 17" (or bigger). But I just know that even with price reductions it will still be out of my budget :(

Call me crazy but I loves my CRTs!
I have 4 large 20"+ monitors hooked up to my Dual 1.42 GHz G4. These things are cheap and have been with me for years. While I'd like to replace them with two 30" LCDs, it's just too damn expensive, and I still prefer the look of CRTs anyway.

Well I wont update my 17'' to a 20 until the current models are replaced and hopefully cheaper but even then I wont be rushing out to buy it,sometime in 2004 will do me just fine.

No way. Apple LCDs are far too expensive, they'd need to become about half of their current price before I would even consider buying one. Trusty IBM 17" CRT for me :)

How do you connect 4 monitors? Do you just add a video card to the one you already have?

You can add PCI video cards. Basically, you can have as many monitors as you have PCI slots free (plus the AGP slot... if you have one.)
The Mac supported this as far back as with the Mac II with NuBus slots! My local computer store had a demo Macintosh IIci with 3 monitors hooked up back in 1990.

I'll wait another year to replace my 15" iMac for another iMac or buy a G5 with cheap CRT.

I too would love to buy an Apple LCD in the next year or so. Though cost is the big thing for me. I just can't justify the cost of the Apple LCD when I can get a CRT for just a few hundred bucks.
Hopefully in the next few years we'll see major price cuts across the board.

I voted no, but that's just 'cuz I don't have the money. And if I did, I would wait at least until after MWSF, because something is BOUND to happen - great or small. So, for five weeks, I'd be able to wait. But not like I'd be waiting for anything specific.

I'd possibly consider a 17" widescreen if the price was right. $400-500 would be an acceptable price, but we all know that's never going to happen.

i'm not, but my dad wants to get the 17." i think he's waiting not only for a refresh on monitors, but whether he wants to get a G5 or wait for a G5 iMac. whenever i visit i use the old G4, and the ancient 15" Apple CRT monitor. wow OS X on that is pretty brutal...

Bought a Cinema 23HD along with my G5 dualie. I've got a 15" (NEC-)Mitsubishi DiamondPoint panel running off the DVI output for now. I don't really have room for another 23HD (besides, I still have to pay for the first one!) and my wife would emasculate me anyway...

not waiting, but if i were to get a g5 and new display, i'd wait. the price to value of the current lineup just seems a little high. granted apple makes in my opinion some of the clearest and nicest displays, but in comparison to other options out there, they're just pricey.

I noted that I'm specifically waiting for a price dropped 23" model... but really, I have no immediate plans to upgrade unless something magical gets released. My current setup uses an 18" NEC LCD in addition to my 15.2" PowerBook, which suits me well.
My true wish is for a 30" or bigger display, one that would allow me to spread out a pile of open documents. I've been doing the mulimonitor thing for years, but if I could afford it I'd much prefer one massive screen vs. many smaller ones.

I'm just waiting for my nice new iMac to ship, so I have no need for an LCD! ... for now.... ;)

I'll be getting a new G5 tower in January (either dual 1.8 or dual 2.0, depending on finances; or, if rumors get strong about a speed bump in Jan, I might wait for Feb.)
And, my wife has been drooling over the 23" HD Cinema Display for some time. Right now we're using a 19" CRT (plus my PowerBook.) But, I don't think I'll want to buy a display until they get updated to have the same look and feel of the G5s. I know that it has to be coming, it's just a matter of when.
So if new matching displays aren't released before we get the G5, we'll just make do with the CRT until they *DO* get updated. And even if they release a 30" display, we'll still only get a 23" (or whatever replaces it,) because that's all that will reasonably fit in our computer cabinet. (I've measured, the current 23" display will fit with one inch of space on either side, and a quarter of an inch above.)

Something I didn't mention in my earlier post, is if I was to get an LCD, it would be widescreen. While I'd love the Cinema HD, there's no way I could possibly afford it

If Apple released a 30" LCD and priced it at $3000, can I get a hell yeah?

What is everybody talking about the price/value isn't good enough for the Apple displays. The only way to beat the CinemaHD on the PC is to buy Sony's 23" Widescreen digi panel. That costs $2500 by the way. To match the 17" Apple Studio with a CRT you need a 19" CRT but that still costs less of course; to beat it with another digi panel you have to pay around the same price(that is if you want one with as good or better picture quality). If widescreen is important to you and you insist on a CRT you have to go with Sony's 24" Widescreen CRT and that costs about $1700. At that point I'd go with a Cinema HD. If you want to save money on an ADC Panel, you can still get the 15" used or refurbed for about $250-$300.
And please don't forget that the prices will continue to drop over time.
Currently have a 20" Cinema Display. Would buy a second display if Apple released an ADC Widescreen model with a TV Tuner/DVR. That would be sweet at any price.

Also, don't forget the quality aspect. I would argue that Apple makes some of the highest quality displays out there, and, well, you get what you pay for! I don't mind paying alittle extra for quality.
It's going to be interesting what kind of updates we see for the LCDs. Hopefully something is announced @ MWSF.

Since I just purchased a new 17" Cinema Display, now at least I can enjoy one in the meantime. Mine has zero dead pixels! I will be watching for new ones, but won't be interested till I get my new G5. :)
