Unwanted Macbook OS resetting overnight ?Virus?Glitch?

Last night I went to bed and left my laptop on connected to interweb...as usual. This morning I awoke to fine it had reverted back to my default settings losing all documents / music etc. Luckily it was backed up. I'm not running virus software....yet. Has anyone heard of this before or is it likely a virus?

It was running itunes and in screen sleep mode. I woke it up this AM and in default setting. All lost. Even the utility setting log was wiped - saying restarted this am
