Purchasing Over the Phone?

Has anyone ever purchased a computer from Apple over the phone? I need to do this to get my student discount on CS3 and I'm curious how fool proof it is. In particular, I'm concerned about them getting my custom-configured computer incorrectly configured.

Yes I ordered an iBook 4-5 years ago and had the RAM maxed out (a massive 640 MB in those days) and probably the HD also. All went well. I live in UK but I think phoning the UK Apple Store, I actually talked to someone in Ireland which is technically a different country. However, as I say, all went well and the iBook arrived as ordered in reasonable time.
