You can call them to buy it over the phone or you can buy it at the store; if you buy it over the phone you are autoenrolled; if you buy it at the store, you have to enroll it online--instructions in the box.

Buy it on eBay...save a ton of cash. My AppleCare was only $200 and I got free shipping and the box. Deal...

Yes, ebay itself is legit. Just make sure you buy from someone with high ratings. I bought AppleCare just fine off of eBay.

there are a couple of other websites that offer a lower priced AppleCare. eBay is one of them. You could get some massive discount there. Buying directly from Apple just costs too much when there are other alternatives out there.

Bought my Applecare from ebay as well. Saved $100.00.
Entered the numbers the seller sent me on Apples site to verify the registration. I'm good till 3/2011.
Worked like a champ.

I dunno if you are in the U.S. or in Canada but here in Canada there is an online store called Sig Electronics that sales the Applecare Protection Plan for cheap.

Yeah, you'll get your box with instructions for everything, so you can just wait for the mail till then. It's pretty simple...but I'm glad to see the eagerness and thoroughness with your purchase.

Once you get the AppleCare box in the mail, there should be a sheet with a sticker on the bottom left. That sticker would have your enrollment number. Just follow the instructions on the sheet to enroll your MBP online. You will need that number.

If you're in your 13 month ownership can you still by the apple care plan? I have a MBP and am wondering if it's worth while or not :o.

Are you sure you got the Macbook Pro plan? For the Macbook it is $249, the Macbook Pro is $349.
Go to the Apple site, under Support. On the right side is a place to see your registered plans. Double check to see if it is the correct plan for your computer.

I will be making a MBP purchase very soon, just need a little more cash, although I have already started buying the extras. 1) Is this "care plan" a replacement or repair plan? 2) What is the typical service time? 3) Who has used the phone service & what for? 4) Will this help me if my MBP ends up in the microwave 2.5 years from now, as electronics sometimes do?

1) Is this "care plan" a replacement or repair plan?
Both, if something breaks like your power adaptor or battery they will replace it. If your notebooks has problems they will do whats economically feasible. If they are constantly repairing the same problem, the lemon law goes into effect and they will replace the computer outright. There is a thread in this section where that just happened.
EDIT: Let's say your notebook's screen, video card, speakers and motherboard all go out at the same time because Zeus struck them with lightening, they are going to just replace the notebook. The economically feasible quote relates to what makes sense for Apple. Because screens cost so much money if a screen and a couple other things go, they are probably just going to replace the unit. (Same theory behind totaling your car)
2) What is the typical service time?
Obviously this varies. But, they are very fast usually with service. They will often times mail the computer from the Apple Store to a service center and have it back within five days.
3) Who has used the phone service & what for? To get something replaced or repaired you have two options: phone or genius bar. I have used it and find that your service is prompter and often times broader. For example, the genius bar doesn't like replacing batteries that bulge. If you call they will ship you a battery and a prepaid box for free. When you call often times you can talk to someone who can make decisions which is a huge benefit. This is obviously for those who do not have an Apple Store with in close distance. I used it to have my screen replaced in five days while I was at Wake Forest, as opposed to driving 6 hours to the nearest Apple Store.
4) Will this help me if my MBP ends up in the microwave 2.5 years from now, as electronics sometimes do?
As long as you don't actually put it in there and something does go wrong, they will fix it. Apple's policy is to fix the computer until it works, so if you bring it in on the last day of warranty, they will fix it until you have a working product. (And guarantee the work for 90 days I believe)

Thanks if you have specific questions, use the search function with some key words or just do some general looking around this forum. AND THEN if you have any other questions feel free to ask. I really do think though that we have answered the majority of basic and specific questions about the Service Plan somewhere on this forum.

so my last day to get the service plan is either 23/24... it says it expires on the 24. I order the plan but I have not recieved it in the mail yet. If it doesn't come by tomorrow should i call Apple? Will they let me register it a day late? I already bought it, I just need the serial.
Thanks!

how do u find out if you're still eligible to buy the protection plan?
If you put your S/N into this form:
https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
And it says you still have warranty remaining, then you are eligible to buy; if it says you don't have warranty, then you can't buy more!
