I'm focusing on only the subwoofer here. Which one of those three Logitech speaker systems has the best subwoofer for best bass? I tried the Z-5500 subwoofer in a Fry's, and was impressed. But I don't need a 5.1 system, so I'm wondering if I can expect comparable bass from the Z-2300's or the Z-4's subwoofer?

The Z5500 has terrific bass, I've had mine running strong for about 4 years now.

I'd get the 5500, because they're cheap enough, and you can run it stereo no problem. Add to this, the fact you're likely to want to upgrade to 5.1 in the future - it'd be nice to have this already in play.

I'm running 5.1 through my imac, PS3 and even my Dell Craptop.

You could just buy a KRK sub...on the list of over kill options. The 2300 is going to be better and that's what I would recommend, if you really don't think you need a 5.1 system (need=want, as always)

Because I certainly can't afford $700, that's why.

I found a stand-alone Z-5500 subwoofer on eBay, I think I'll grab that.
