iPod Ipod on New Macbook

I have the original ipod video (30gb) and i have always used it on my PC. but this weekend i am getting a macbook so i was wondering how i could put all my songs onto my new computer. Can i just connect my ipod to the computer and it will upload the songs from the ipod to the computer? I have like 800 songs and i dont want to keep burning CDs and importing them into itunes!! Also, does it matter that my ipod has gone from Windows XP to the mac software?? please help :)

You typically can't just connect an iPod to a new computer and transfer music. There are programs you can purchase that will do that. However, if you still have access to you PC you can use your iPod to transfer your music by putting it in 'disk mode'. This link to the Apple Support website goes into detail of how to do it.

I'm planning on buying new Mac myself and had problems with ipod's library and new computers before...

The application Senuti will transfer music from the iPod to the Mac, and it's free (at least, it was the last time I used it).
